Keep in mind the HD versions have been scaled to DVD resolution to fit on the page. That means even though the difference at DVD resolutions is obvious, it gets even more dramatic when both are shown at an HD resolution.

Damn u making me want to get that hddvd addon for my 360 so much more! but will i ever use it? with torrents out there, its so hard

there's the 1080p extended versions of all 3 online :thumbsup:

it's about 100gigs for all 3.

I bet we'll be hearing that question a lot in the next little while. I believe New Line Cinema is releasing on both formats for some titles, LOTR...maybe?

I heard that Universal Studios will be releasing solely on HD-DVD. Can anyone confirm that? Also blu-ray seems to have quite a few backers that will be releasing for BR only. Proprietary format title releases aren't going to do anyone any good :(

Watching Return of the King in 1080i was the day the true glory of HD dawned on me. As nice as the Fellowship is in HD, just wait until you've seen RotK in HD...
highlights include all the war scenes, all the extra detail you can see EVERYTHING - theoden's armor being a good one - and just well, fuck, everything.
