Since 2000 all bikes are electronically limited at 174-178mph (~280km/h), the only bike to "legally" do that faster from the factory was the '99 Hyabusa.

must take speedo error into account when limiting then, seen a few bikes show 299, and tach still rising on 750s an 1ks

Yup but I know that for a Gixxer you can get a PC111r that can take care of that just fine!

When you look down and your speedo says 299kph you relaize that what you're doing is pretty fuckin stupid! Really who needs to be doing 83 meters per second!!

None of my last few bikes has been limited electronicaly, I don't know what you guys are talking about..

The Hayabusa and ZX12r's were limited for top speeds but it's easily overcome using a little electronic trickery. My CBR1k was only limited by power, It would run out of breath around 296-7. At least that's all I could wring out with the road length that I had to work with.

We certainly aren't denying the fact its easily overcome. But has also been discussed that in '99 the big 4 agreed to place a limit on top speed from the factory. This was due to pressure from groups that wanted to outlaw sportbikes because of their inherent danger. As mentioned by myself above, that is the reason the 99 GSX1300R (hyabusa) was the ONLY FACTORY model to ever achieve over 300kph without modification.

Wikipedia addresses this until I can find a true reputable source:

"...he Japanese manufacturers have allegedly had "gentlemen's agreements" to limit production motorcycle engines to a maximum output of 125bhp in the 90s & later a maximum speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) in an effort to promote safety - typically accomplished with an electronically-controlled speed governor."

I can tell you that many top speed runs done on video also show multiple bikes not pulling past that 180-185mph mark despite strong acceleration to that point and +- 3000rpm to play with. Puts a strong case and point.

simply the speedo does not read past 299
the bike is still pulling but the speedo is not.
try it ... and you will see
