I was just thinking about the viable options for cars to do a bit of for fun drifting, and remeber "Turbo Tom's" old 80's BMW.... that thing hauled ass (lotsa power with his home made turbo kit), and as I recall, it was quite small....

Whatya think? What models/years would be good to do the ol' sidestep in?

I don't see why not. I know I'd rather see one powersliding BMW than a half-dozen 240SX's.

I've seen a few turbo E21s (76-83?) drifting. They should make decent drift cars too. Many of them come with LSD from the factory, and are very light (~2300lbs).

edit: heres a video of a turbo m5 and turbo e21 I found. The title says E30, but its actually an E21 in the video

E30's make great drift cars, they are light and nimble and E30's and BMW's in general have a strong aftermarket for anything to you would need to upgrade.

E30's with the 2.5L liter M20b25 also run 8.5:1 compression from the factory. Perfect for turbo power. If you swap in the bottom end off of the economy 2.7L motor the compression is even further reduced.

There are a couple drifters on www.r3vlimited.com with e30's in the states.
