I saw a 1990 honda accord EXR with 132K on it. The guy who's selling the car bought it from the auction and was written off. He told me that he put in new headlights and a new driveshaft. Is it worth $2000? Can they writeoff cars with driveshaft and broken headlight? If i'm serious about the car he will get the car inspected for me and also put in a new windshield.

built very strong. my 91 accord was driven till 396000km. i even took the thing camping and house boating in BC when it was in it's 300's and it was fine. at 396000 i thought the engine was finished because it lost all power and idled rough so i gave it to my uncle and he change the distributer and it runs fine again. oh and i never changed the timing belt at 300000km because i thought that once cars get to that point, everything just breaks down but honda proved me wrong.

I had a 91 Accord LX with 255 km on it. It never ever let me down, it was comfortable to sit in, I could drive for a living and never have a back problem. It was great on gas, 40 bucks for 650 km. That car sold me on Honda. tell him $1500, you'll take it.

well it would dependon the extent of the damage.

form what your saying this car got written off for minimal damage then what most others doo.

If it doesn't have frame damage and the body was repaired repaired properly, that engine, provided it's the original one with 132k on it, will go for at least double that. 1500 sounds like a good offer, if he says no, just go right in the middle. He proabbly paid like 800 bucks for it but auctions are risky shit to begin with. Make sure you have everything gone over extensively, especially the body and frame.

Does it drive straight down the highway ... might be tempting if it did

Considering its age, it's not hard for an accident repair tab to exceed the value of the car.

Get it inspected and make sure it wasnt a really bad write off, as stated it couldve just been that age of the car and minor damage causing a write off.
I used to have a 91 EXR the tranny went at 480,000kms and the motor still ran fine. It took endless beatings for years and never let me down. :)

I'd go and get it inspected personally, and not have the seller get it inspected for you. Who knows if he has a "friend" that passes of bad cars:dunno:

I had an 89 Accord and it was decent at 200 000 km. The only shitty thing about it was it was carbureted and not EFI.

am i the only one seeing this? a accord is fwd so there is NO DRIVESHAFT. if they guy doesnt know the difference between cv shafts and a driveshaft and is the one repairing it i wouldnt look twice at this car. and if there was an impact to cause the cv's to be replaced and not just wear and tear then there is going to be alot of bent shit around them
