I just took my desktop PC and opened it up, and sprayed out all the dust with one of those compressed air cartridges.

I plug everything back in, and as soon as I get to the Windows XP screen, I get a blip of the blue screen of death and the computer restarts.

Could the compressed air actually damage something? I didn't spray it directly on anything, just quick bursts like it said all over the place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try booting it up in safe mode

Yeah i had that happen to my customer before too. A bit worse then yours. In his case, the hard drive failed to respond.. even worse but yeah sometimes the blue screen of death means a hardware defect!

maybe something came loose?

check the connections for the ram, ps, power button, etc etc and hd's too

then, boot from cd, boot into windows and choose repair cosole and run chkdsk /p

What does boot from CD mean?

K, on reboot press 'F8' to get the advanced boot options screen.
Select disable automatic restart, and let it boot.
Post the stop error # here

If you do not have that choice, then you do not have SP2, and are in even bigger trouble, since even Microsoft won't help you ;)

Other choices...
Boot from the windows CD and do a repair install
If you can find a way to get into any modes, do SFC /scannow

If you can get to recovery console, first chkdsk /r (which does more than chkdsk /p), then if that doesn't solve it replace the registry with the backup (c:\windows\backup)
