View Full Version : moving expenses and taxes
The bulk of my belongings were moved in January but I also left a lot of stuff in storage at my parent's place in Ottawa.
Can I still claim the moving expenses of having those remaining items moved here even tho it's 1 year after the fact?

So you've moved in Jan 2006, it's only Dec 2006...
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to claim it, it'll probably be claimed against the following year's tax filing. It is your stuff after all... and I don't see how the government can make someone move EVERYTHING entirely in one setup anyways. Just go ahead and claim it.

If you get those items shipped out and have the receipts, yes.. You can also claim moving the yr after I believe too, if you don't have stuff in order in time this yr.. It all laid out online what they cover, and how much for what..

IIRC there is an amount that you can claim for food/hotel/etc without receipts to back it up, in addition to the transportation expenses. You should be able to carry forward any unused credits with no problems.
for temporary lodging i think it's 10 or 14 days that you can claim. I just want to know if i can claim expenses for moving belongings a year after the initial move.

Why not just check out www.ccra.gc.ca and get the "moving expense" guide
because it doesn't say if there is a time limit.
