No they are actually separate companies although they do have very close partnerships on a lot of projects for instance the porsche cayenne and the vw tourag are both manufactured at vw's plant in the czech republic.

it was pointed out by Slashin_ that GM does own Daewoo which produced these cars, thanks.

As well FYI all new pontiac vibes are outfitted with Toyota Branded motors, taken right out of the toyota matrix... its odd popping the hood of the pontiac and looking at a big toyota logo.

However GM only owns DAEWOO motors not the daewoo group and is working feverishly to rebadge them to get away from the daewoo name!

SAAB and Subaru must be close aren't they? Isn't the 9-3 and the impreza the same car?

Yes they were quite close until earlier this year when GM sold off its shares in Subaru to Toyota.

BMW doesn't "own" Brilliance, they have a joint venture with them to produce BMWs inside China. All it is is a way to get around import tarrifs, because foreign auto companies can only build in China with a Chinese joint venture partner. It's the same with all the other companies that make cars in China. It's all in name only, all the plant in China does is assemble kits imported in Germany on a completely automated production line, Brilliance Auto has their own car brands in China, they don't actually have anything to do with making BMWs.

Same thing with Beijing Jeep.

DCX also owns :

85% of Mitsubishi Fuso Trucks
30% of EADS (Airbus)

Toyota also owns:

6.5% of Isuzu
100% Aisin Seki, the tranny maker. The 6 sp transmission in your 911 is made by Toyota.

Ford now owns:

ASTON MARTIN
FORD
JAGUAR
LAND ROVER
LINCOLN
MAZDA (34% and the controlling stake)
MERCURY
PUMA
VOLVO

There's a small company in Brazil that use to make knockoff VWs in the late 90s called Puma, but they have nothing to do with Ford, and neither does the maker of women's shoes. Where did you get that from? :nut:

Also there's this small independent company called Honda......

No, Subaru made the Saab 9-2 for GM. This was when GM owned 20% of Subaru. Toyota has since bought that share and the 9-2 has gone the way of the dodo.

good points but...

I Tried not to include truck or heavy equipment manufaturers or most of the chinese market as of my first post there are over 750 car manufaturers worldwide most of whom people would have no idea what they make.

secondly parts manufacturers i also tried as much as possible to exclude. otherwise this list would just be rediculous tho i do admit to have included a few.

Now for PUMA... DID YOU KNOW that the puma name was bought by ford from VW? yes it was VWs attempt at selling brazillian "kit cars" basically through the early 80's.

and my sincere apologies for not having honda thought i did see thats what happens late at night!;)

I also didnt include the toyota and isuzu part because while toyota does have a 5% stake in isuzu, they also have 500,000 shares in toyota so it pretty much nullifies the point.

Isn't Aston Martin being sold off? I heard that Ford was trying to sell it off, even though it's one of the few that actually brings in a proft. And that the CEO of Aston Martin is thinking of buying it out??

Ford has been considering a massive restructure including possibly selling off volvo jaguar and aston martin but as of yet they havent done anything.
