Who does ? :D

But for 1/3 the price of a CLS55 AMG / M5 etc .. and RWD, the 300C is not bad! :)

although if you knew how to tune one of those srt8s properly i bet it can rape the m5 :D but that would also require racing seats, slight suspension mods and a ton of engine mods to keep up with the m5 in corners.

this is why i hate clarkson, "its not the most sophisticated engine in the world, it only got a single camshaft" yea, the pushrod motors were rapin ass back in the 60's and they still are today, this reminds me alot of the BMI shit and how they seem to handicap american cars any chance they can

in the corners though, the 300c does look like a bitch

I think that race could be closer with and little R&D into the transmission. Or just make the SRT8 the standard engine in the 300c and then make a SRT10 with the viper engine which I'm sure we'll see inna few years.

^^^ ya its kinda unfair to compare a v8 to a v10 especially since the m5 makes more power.

I've driven the Charger SRT-8 and while a decent performer, it's not in the same league as a new M5/6 . But it does have a decent aftermarket for such a new model wth S/C kits, cams's, full exhausts etc etc. Being based off the previous gen Mercedes E class though makes it a heavy car and that hurts all aspects of performance.

Plus the C6 Z06 is doing pretty damn good for an old tech pushrod engine with a single cam *L*.

^^^ ya :D its a heck of a car once you stick some aftermarket goodies onto it, but deadstock it can't hold a finger on the new m5, i wonder how it would fare against the 2002ish m5 though :D

530xi would have been a logical comparison. Of course, it's slower than the SRT, so they couldn't do that.

I guess they were comparing the best factory tuned "business sedan" from U.S. vs. best of 'over there.' 530xi is not considered factory tuned. But I do agree that it was not the greatest comparison.

For the price though, the 300C (normal C or with AWD or SRT8) is impressive. I think the SRT8 even has cylinder deactivation so you have SRT8 power when/if you want it. All 300C's start with 340-hp & 390 lb-ft. The only stock 5-series that has more power than a 300C (non-SRT8) is the 550i and that costs $35K more than the 300C --- even then the 550i has 20 more hp but 30 LESS lb-ft tq.

I'm sure Chrysler's partner, Mercedes-Benz, would have an AMG answer to the M5 though.
