I was using a 17" CRT flatscreen before and just upgraded to a Samsung 19" Widescreen LCD 941BW, and right after using it, started to experience headaches, felt dizzy and almost throwing up like motion sickness...

Can someone explain why?Is it cause its a widescreen not a full screen?

Was it made in china? If so you may have the bird flu or sars.

I really wonder how you manage to get motion sickness from a LCD monitor. First off, LCD monitors don't really have a refresh rate. I would think of the response rate next, but your monitor has a response rate of 4ms, and that's pretty damn fast.

Are you using a VGA cable, by the way? If so, try using DVI instead.

My computer does have a DVI thingie....its a crappy E-machine with onboard graphics card

And I dunno if its motion sickness but I get a headache, feel like throwing up, I've googled my problem and its common to some people but problem solved..gonna return the monitor

You know, just because you got the monitor and sick at the same time doesn't necessarily mean there's a connection. Maybe it was something you ate...give it awhile.

Make sure you have enough ambient lighting in the room, regardless of the type of monitor.

I went from a 21" CRT to a 24" LCD widescreen and have had no problems. The LCD is on run with the analogue output because my old video card doesn't have DVI. Just be sure the monitor is set to display its native resolution.

lower the brightness and increase the distance.

Go see a doctor/optometrist

Does the moniter have a glossy finish to it?? if it does then it could be that you are getting headaches from the reflection of the moniter

Samsung's LCD monitors never have a glossy finish to it.

I went through this as well. Took about a week to adjust. I found a 10W bulb BEHIND the monitor shining on the wall, giving a backlight ambience helped a lot with it. I figured it was my eyes trying to adjust to the sharper contrast.

The brightness/contrast really made me sick when i went from a crt to an lcd

it took me a week to get used to it. All i did was set the brightness and contrast very low so that it was a little dull and not so bright but made sure it didnt strain my eyes. Then everyday i would just increase the brightness and contrast a little by little until i got to the optimal settings for both. Now i can look at the monitor for hours in bright day light or when its completely dark in the room and i feel fine.

Thanx guys for all the info I'm gonna try all of it, the lightbulb behind the monitor thing cause its dark in here, and burn some incense to ward off the LCD monitor voodoo, and whatever else

Speaking of resolution, you should set it to the native resolution...LCDs look like ass otherwise.

Try turning on cleartype if you don't already have it installed.

it should clear things up a bit.

Are you sure it's not because of the nasty porn you watch that is making you sick now that you get to see it w/ better clarity?? I know you have to be getting those gross pictures in ask leo from somewhere.

But the answer is still no, I returned the Samsung 941BW Widescreen and got a 19" LG 1970HR Fullscreen instead and wow its a major difference, no more sickness, just a lil getting use to but I guess the widescreen messed with my eyes or something...weird I know
