The ram is different, DDR2 is usually faster and is a different connection where you plug it in.. they look very similar, but the little notch is either one pin left or right, depending on if its DDR1 or DDR2.

DDR2... but those laptops only have one slot for ram on the bottom, so you have to throw away what you have and get a 1 or 2 gig stick.

You didnt say exactly which one it is, but I know from experience with the 3210, 3215, 3225 and 3228 all use DDR2 and only have one ram slot.
