V-Tec Sounds funny :)

Hey there had my first encounter with Hearing a car go into Vtec.

was on 33rd going towards Crowchild you know where that bus stop is where the cops hang out... anyways had to stop at the next light. some lady pulls up beside me on the out side lane in her basic RSX. she looks at me and gives me a mean looking snier. i was like what the heck is that for.... didnt even have my stereo on. drivers and passengers windows were open and i smiled at her to see if she'd get out of that bad mood she was in. soo the light turns green she hammers the gas squeeks her tyres i'm like Ohh it's ON.... Hammer my gas stayed in 1st up to rev limit i kept her in her own lane insted of her cutting me off. should have left her alone i know but yeah. Now we'er at the light to get on to crowchild North just on the bridge shes on the out side and will have to merge "behind me!!" she's reving her engine creeping forward... Since i'm at that light every day i know when it turns green i wait... it turns green i hammer it she's at my back fender she then comes up beside me i hear this unexplainable sound which i think is VTec but just not enough Torque to get by me she then whips behind me and the race is on down Crowchild before i know it we'er at the Childerns Hospital she's right on my ass then i saw the Photo radar going to bow TR stayed in my lane she passed me and i'm sure she got Tagged !! I shouldent have been such an ass but sheesh some people are in too much of a rush ! anyways i went the speedlimit and who do i see still in traffic going on to Univerity Drive... the Silver RSX with her in it...

But yeah it's almost like hmmmm ps ps ps ps ps ps ps sound hmmm it's hard to remember now actualy but yeah it was a pattern. kinda like a ticking? anyone have a sound clip?

Shouldnt sound like ticking man. I love the sound of VTEC, I can hear it from miles away at night when my window is open. Its very recognizable and the last thing is sounds like to me is ticking so I couldnt tell ya man :dunno:

well like i said it's hard to explain.... the Engine at high RPM goes in to this Pattern mode it no longer sounds Normal makes a diffrent sound... hmmmmm how would you guys explain it.

you know dammm well id get my ass kicked :) it would be very very hard for my car being N/A to beat one of those. maybe Mods + a turbo but yeah i dont want to even get in to it. they'er nice cars BTW :) i love those wheels on the Blue cars with the dark wheels Mmmmmm looks damm good :) Though id BUY a Celica GTS b/c they look sweeter :) had to buy a Old persons car tho b/c my insurrance was soo high :) theres still a nice engine under my hood it's the same as the 2003 TIb Betta 2 but with Higher Lift intake cam which is the reason why it's got more Hp than the Tib. + with Intake and Exhaust it opends the breathing a bit better alllows that cam to take in more air :) a guy in the states with the same mods as my self had his car dyno'ed and put 139.2 whp to the gound. not tones of HP but hey it's an alright car :)

ya vtec is such a good feeling, i drove my aunts 92 teg the other day and was so dissapointed, i kept waiting for it to kick in.

AWESOME !! *Props to whome ever posted the link !!! that's cool it's almost like the car Gears down at 5000 rpm but just the Vtec goes on and it's like that BRRRRRRRRRRR sound like the RSX it's cool the more i learn about Honda the more i start to apprecate it :) ive always been the type to get something Diffrent insted of being like everyone else the thing is everyelse obviously knows about some of the advantages of Honda :) and id have to say Vtec would be one of them :) Too bad they didnt have just a few more Ft/p of Torque or else that women would have passed me :) what HP does the basic RSX have anyways? 140? 150?

I dunno I've never heard an RSX engine before, but I thought they were I-Vtecs so ther is a constant state of lobe timing change..... Its not like older vtecs wher its on or off. And ther is a distinct sound of VTEC

On the type-s the vtec hits at 5800. There is constant timing adjustments made by the ECU though...:)

mine is close to 7000... 6800 or something

i had more Pull then she did tho i was alread at 80km/h half way down the ramp and when i pulled on to crowchild i had 2 car lenths ahead of her. and after the first corner by the Childrens hospital i was up to 140ish she droped back a tiny bit then the stright towards bow TR turn off and stright though to the uni i slowed down for the Photo radar *Hard on the breaks i was after she passed me :) down to 70 for the photo radar :) i'm hopeing she got Tagged :)

I was racing a RSX Type S a few weeks ago.

From a second gear roll on from around 40 to about 80km/hr, I had him.. until *click*. It kinda sounded like my electric trunk latch clicking. then WAAAAAAH, and he pulled ahead. What an awsome sound..

doh! hehe.. Guess thats what ya get when you pit a 15yr old small displacement pushrod econo-engine, against a cutting edge, dohc screamer :)

i love the sound of VTEC. especially when im flooring it. i miss that though...too bad my clutch is terribly burned out. now i have to wait a couple weeks in order to hear taht sound again.

the base model RSX has 160 hp, the same engine as the new SiR. its the K20A2 or something

In 2k4/2k5 they'er putting in VVT in their new Engine. so we'll see how it goes when it comes out :) as you can see Hyundai Builds Clones. they Copy stuff and sell it for CHeeper. so they'er gona always be slightly behind the times unless they start developing stuff them selves Funny thing is Mitsubishi has been getting Hyundia to fine tune their engines for a few years. in the lower end cars like lancer, mirage as well as their SUV.

hah...Vtec doesn't sound like a clicking sound...
On the Ivtecs you can still hear it engage at 5800 (They have revlimiters while in neutral, so you cant hear it there...)Redline is about RSX/S. Anyways, teh vtec sounds fucking goood
Basically, it sounds like standard accelerating, just harder and more intense. Test drive one, and go about half or full throttle through first, and you'll definitly notice it. If the RSX has an intake, you can hear the vtec engagement soooo much louder...Sounds sooooo good. Nothing beats Vtec sound :D

Haha good call. VTEC I will give respect too. Honda was a very smart company to come up and patent it. It is overrated, but just to people who have no idea what it is, or what it does.

vtec just sounds like the engine got slightly uncorked...really raw just vooooooaaaaaaarrr noise...but that was before iVTEC...dunno if that would sound any different

the v-tec change over in my accord is at 3500... sounds cool and I get to hear it all the time. Just wish the J30A1 had more torque where you need it, not way up at redline...
