As some of you might or might not know, I recently spent my Christmas vacation in Cuba. I don't know how many of you have ever had the opportunity to travel to this amazing country, but it is simply unbelievable. Here is a collection of car photographs that I took while in Havana City and Varadero.

Here are two examples of buses within Havana. The first one was spoted on the outskirts of the city, pretty simple. The second one is just a big trailer attached to some ratty old semi truck, and it does the routes of the city. Upon futher inspection of these trailers (we rode on one for a little bit) there are holes in the floors, missing windows, and we saw 2 or 3 bullet holes near the front. Scary shit.

You are correct sir. They have not been able to import replacement parts for american cars since 1960, when the revolution occured. These cars still exist, and they use any and all spare parts they can find from other vehicles. Also, because they are so poor (monthly wage is roughly $20 CAD) these cars are cheap to own.

How long were you there for? I was in Varadaro as well, my flight left on the 18th. Talk about one backward assed currency.

I forgot my camera the one day when I was walking around the front of the resort, and when I was speaking to the gaurd at the entrance, he was saying his 1952 Pontiac had a mid 80's Lada engine in it. We went and took a look at it, and wow, there was so much space in the engine bay, it was insane. Apparently, theres a guy rollin around Varadero with a ski boat engine retro fitted on a 1955 Chevy. I wish I could have seen it

I was there from the 24th until the 31st. I stayed at the Playa Varadero 1920 (Just down the beach from you a.z13). It was a nice resort, but Paradisus is MUCH nicer. I stayed there in 2004, and it was just amazing.

Yea it was pretty nice, i was there at the same timee 24th - 31st, weird. We must of been on the same flight if u flew to and from calgary. But yea cuba was really nice its the only place that actually looks like the postcards, with the white sand beaches and the green water.

I was there this summer, my first time. Amazing country! I'll definitely go back. It was like a total time warp down there.

Those co-co taxis are nuts!!

Ya those old cars are hot, it's like Jurassic Car Park when you go to Cuba...

Pretty scary and sad that god damned American restrictions (and a bit of Fidel) are keeping that country down and in the past. Life looks a bit stagnant and tough there. I wouldn't want Cuba to be American-ized or Western-ized, but at least to have the opporunity and choice to enjoy modern conveniences like us.
