Is it necessary to buy high end DVI cables for a 37" 1080p LCD HDTV? I'm looking to hook up my computer to it as one of the inputs and (correct me if I'm wrong) DVI is the only way to get 1900x1000 resolution.

So that being said, would the $100+ MonstorCable that MemEx is selling be noticably better than the run-of-the-mill $30 cable they have there?

Monster is da bomb!

How old is your TV? Most new TVs come with a VGA port and HDMI.

DVI ports came on TVs about 3-4 years ago, but none were 1080p.

VGA or HDMI are the only ways to get 1080p (I could be mistaken).

Depending on your computer, you may or may not be able to view
the signal VIA DVI.

If your vid card sends an analog DVI signal (yes they may) then you're
just as well off using VGA.

As far as the quality, if you're sending digital signals, then there's
no loss of quality due to "poor cables". Digital signals are 0's and 1's.
Don't get owned by a scam.

DVI-D spec support 1080p and beyond. The problem is most 1080p capable screen already moved on to HDMI and dumped DVI. And most DVI HDTV can only go up to 1080i.

And yes, you don't need expensive cable if it's a digital connection. Any DVI/HDMI cable can carry 1080p signal for 5M.

^ For the screen I have DVI goes up to 1080p and HDMI only does 1080i. Which works out great for me because I don't have any HDMI outputs on my computer...

good prices and they're local, monoprice is good, if you dont mind waiting 3 weeks for your shit.

Basically with digital cables (hdmi and DVI) "gold plated" and shit means nothing, it's digital, either it works, or it doesn't, the only time you start having quality issues is if you're going long distances.

The only difference that you'd see between the expensive cables and the cheapo ones are shielding, plug (gold plated vs not gold plated), and wire gauge.

This should only make a difference for a speaker wire, not a digital signal.
