I did it... I finally did it.. I brought enough courage together, stepped up to the plate, and asked fellow beyonder, Kiwi to marry me tonight!

I've known her my whole life, but only started dating three years ago today... to me, it was love at first sight.

I am so excited, I dont think I can sleep tonight, but I have to.. I've been so nervous, and I hadnt slept good in a few nights!

I had the day all planned, speaches written up, and scenarios played out... but in the end, it just came out from the heart.

introducing her newest mod: :D

wow! the Day after.... head is still spinning.. seems surreal to me.. :D Thanks to everyone for their support!

We both took a day off from work to celebrate our 3year anniversary.. I bought her a bouquet of roses, and I took her out to banff, and bought her a chain for her purse from the LV store (she thought that was her anniversary gift the whole time). She also wanted to buy an LV bifold key holder, but I told her no, the chain is enough for the day, and we can get it another time.

We got back in town, and went to the Calgary Tower for dinner (I've had reservations for over a month!). When we got out of the car, I suprised her with another LV bag that I had hidden away in the car the WHOLE day. The bag and the little box were identical to the bag and the little box she got with the LV chain earlier in the day. She was shocked, and wondered how I could have produced it, as she was with me in the store the whole time (little did she know, I ran to Holt Renfrew during lunch from work the day before, and picked up the bifold key holder). We were a bit dissapointed that the observation deck was closed for a private function that night, as I originally wanted to take her up there and propose just in time to watch the sun go down. But anyhow, that just wasnt meant to be. (there goes some of my plans!!)

Through her connections on some forums, she found a person that worked at the tower! So she got us a private booth instead of a normal table (thanks Karman!). Joyce had mentioned that she always wanted a booth for our anniversary, as it provided just that much more privacy.

We setup the roses so they were standing on the table, that combined with the candlelight, great food, glasses of iced tea (her favorite!), and the endless city view, it was the perfect ambiance for the night!

We were having mussels for appetizers, when we decided we'd do our gift exchange. I opened mine, and it was an apple FM radio remote for my Ipod (i've been wanting it for the LONGEST time). I gave her my present, and she opened up the box to reveal the bifold key holder, but before she actually opened up the bifold, I gave her another box (it's the little white box our ring came in originaly), and I asked her which present she wanted more, the LV, or the box with the "ring" (I swear, my heart skipped a beat knowing she could have toyed with me and chose the LV!). But she chose the white box, and when she opened it, she laughed, as I had hidden a candy ring pop inside. She put it on, and said, damn, this must be at least 18 carats!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/stress_kitten/RingPopLolli-NJ.jpg

While she was still in a joking mood, I grabbed her hands, and told her what I felt, and how I felt.. (that's when the tears started rolling!! oh! and she started crying too.. ) I opened up the trifold key holder, and inside, attached to one of the key holders was the ring. I got down on one knee, and asked her to marry me... but I did it in Cantonese for an added twist.

The rest of the night was spent basking in the ambiance. I would recomend the Tower experience... What nicer way to make a proposal to that special someone at 190m above the City? ;)

The ring is 1.51ct I saved for a long time, and even had to smash my piggy bank

Thanks for all the comments everyone! It's a big step in our lives.. I thought proposing was the hardest part.. but we're only halfway there! the actual planning is the hard part.. and you know.. them Chinese weddings... it's a festive celebration of sorts!! But I'll leave that up to Kiwi.. :)

Congrats!! LOL that's why my fiance and I have decided to get married in summer of 2008, and just enjoy the new house, cars, and dog for the timebeing.

I guess we're pretty lucky though...my family (asian) is not very traditional at all and his family (german/swiss) is very easygoing as well

Have fun though...you only get to do this once (hopefully) lol!

:)

Hi Joyce,
If you haven't already guessed it's Kelvin, congrats by the way, haven't seen you around very much lately. But anywho, i'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more, and I'm sure that Gramps will call for a ridiculously traditional Chinese wedding
