View Full Version : Harness Wiring Question

I have the speaker wires for my amp going from the wiring harness in the dash to the amplifier in the trunk. The wires are about 19 feet long each and there's 2 for each speaker plus a switched wire. So that's 9 wires. My question is about the switched wire, I've had my stereo running for 6 months off the red wire that says IGNITION/SWITCHED 12 VOLT. And it works fine except I've been noticing I can't turn my key one click and have the stereo come on. I have to turn it 2 clicks and it comes on, or just turn the ignition all the way. That's fine, I don't care, but I just noticed I also have a blue wire in the harness that says POWER ANTENNA.

My question - Should I change the switched wire going to the amps from the red wire to the blue wire in the harness? Here's a picture of what I have.

The first picture is the connections, you can see I'm using the red wire for the switched and not the blue. The second picture is what I'm going for, I have a single jacket containing all the individual wires going into the wiring harness which I will plug in under the screen to the vehicle harness. Nice and neat.

So I don't confuse anyone, the reason my harness isn't connected to the CD player is because I'm running a carputer and there's not enough voltage from the sound card to power the speakers so I have to run the speakers off a 4 channel amplifier. This doesn't change anything, it's still the same question for the switched wire.

I hooked up a multimeter and the only voltage I get is out of the IGNITION red wire, nothing from the blue. Case closed.
