Go there probably once every 2 weeks at least for lunch (16.99 ayce sushi + appetizers) with a group of folks from work. I'm sure that there will be alot of beyonder who will tell you it's shit because eveyone seems to have been to tokyo/taiwan/vancouver, and eaten the best sushi that the world has ever known and since this is in downtown calgary, and doesn't cost 100$ a meal, it must be shit. Seems these threads turn into excuses to brag.

But i love it, and the sushi is good, and the appetizers are great -- yam tempura FTW! I don't know if i'd pay 44$, we have tea and drop a yuppie food stamp and that's about all it would be worht to me.

I'm curious as well, but $44 seems to be steep.

All I can say is I personally think their sushi is horrible. If you wanted all you can eat, I would suggest Sushi BBQ Inn on 16th but even that place isn't that great neither. But it sure as hell ain't $44, back then it was around the $20 range and daytime is even cheaper. Sushi BBQ Inn is around the $22/person range i believe.

Sushi Toyko raised their prices on everything by quite a bit recently.

$44 per couple sounds more reasonable.

+1 for Sushi BBQ inn......Very good for $21/person, easily compareable to any other sushi joint I've been to in town....Haven't been too impressed with others...

The all you can eat sushi/sashimi/rolls are pretty bad but the cooked stuff is normal.

My family usually go once every 6 weeks. Food is good. No real complaints, some people have to readjust their expectations. Sushi restaurants in this city for the most part, all taste the same!

 up for Wa's though, been going there every weekend for the last few months.

Sushi Tokyo = :barf:

I personally HATE their food, i find it disgusting. About 5 yrs ago i found it pretty good but ever since..it's degraded. I myself will never go there ever again.

All you can eat for $44?!? You can get all you can eat Sushi at Sushi Ichiban for half that much.

sushi tokyo = :barf:

last time i went to sushi tokyo, the fish was really old and 'fishy'. i can eat a lot of good sushi, but i ate a mackarel there and had to spit it out. it's really bad sometimes.

sushi bbq inn is just gross. it's dirty, there's pieces of fish in the corners on the floor, inbetween chairs, and the servings are mostly rice now. service really sucks too.

And they're the same company. Same menus, more or less. I got to the sushi ichiban in westbrooke all the time, and the sushi tokyo downtown.

Fuck I miss Vancouver and the $8 all-you-can-eat sushi, that's ACTUALLY made with fresh fish.

Went there once and they try to load you up on rice to cut costs. :thumbsdow

I've banned Sushi BBQ Inn for bad and rude service. Never again!

agreed, i went to that a few times while i was at SAIT, the food was good, the service was absolutely awful.

They came once to get the order, and once to get the food, and never came back to see if we need more of anything.

it depends on where you sit i guess.. when i looked on the floor and cracks inbetween the benches, i saw fish lying there. maybe it was just the people before me who couldn't finish their food.. but it was still pretty nasty.

service was stupid too... me and my girl were using the grill to sear some salmon, and the older waitress comes over and starts panicking saying, "no no no you can't do that!! you misusing the grill, that could cause explosion!". uhhhh.... wtf?? i just burst out laughing accidentally and i think she got really offended.

Its really not worth eating all you can eat sushi anymore... the sushi you get always have WAY to much rice.. I rather go to places like towa, sushi kai, etc... and pay for sushi a la carte since it costs about the same and sometimes less for much higher quality sushi plus you can doggy bag if you can't finish
