Maybe someone on here can help me. Im wondering if a trailer like this can haul around a small car such as a vw golf. Thanks

Wouldnt those wheel humps scrape the chassis of a car (let alone clear it).

thats not a problem, i can make a ramp or something, even make 2 raised pieces to drive over, but i dont know if those trailers can support such weight

More than likely it will not haul a small car safely, chances are the axle is only rated for 1000lbs. Most single axle utility trailers are rated between 500lbs and 1500lbs, you'd probably be better off with a tandem axle unit with electric or surge brakes. There may be a certification tag on the frame somewhere with a load rating as well.

i think he said the axle is rated at 2000 pounds. And its ready for brakes just needs the cylinder :dunno:

That looks like an old RV trailer by the looks of the propane tank holders at the front. Should be good for at least 2000lbs, but make sure it has it's own brakes before you haul anything with it.

Every car hauler/auto transporter i have seen has been a tandem set up. You could probably get away with it, but im guessing the bearings would be shot right quick and other such problems. Also, a golf weighs more than 2000 lbs.

I wouldn't put my car on that, but thats just me. I'm going to be investing in a tandem axle shortly to haul the mustang around on.

Make sure you get the rating for the steel, the axle and the wheels. Personally I dont think that it will work...

There's a place over by the road king that carries some nice ones, a brand new 16' tandem is only about $3k, and thats with eletric brakes on all four wheels, ramps, the whole schmear except for tie downs. If you know you are going to use it a lot, its worth spending the cash on a brand new one.

Ya i wouldnt be using it alot. Maybe a couple times a year, so its not worth it for me. But its the right way to go if i had a car to tow around all the time.

rent a dolly from Uhaul. they are cheap little haulers. And an autotransporter is only about 60 bucks a day.
