Now im not computer crazed person and i have had this ipod for 3 hours and can't figure the dam thing out. I did figure out how to put a cd in my cd drive and then load the songs but the songs off my computer like....

limewire and windows media i dont have a clue about.

I can't seem to load them at all. Grab and drag dont work nor importing them into the libary.

I just loaded the newest version of itunes on my computer.

Any help would be great.

All you have to do is in your itunes you have to go file and import folder of files. Just go to the folder where all the songs you download in limewire are saved, and import them onto itunes.

Itunes Go File and then ADD Folder to Library. You should be able to drag as well. If you click and drag the song on the MUSIC bit which is under Library, it should work.

All my music that i have from limewire is in my music folder...i will try that right now. bear with me.

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 02:44 AM
Yea just go, file --> Add Folder to Library --> Select your Music Folder and Voila! You should have your music getting transferred into Itunes.

harley11

Okay and then how do i load them onto the ipod (all at once)??

And do i do the same with videos????

http://people.uleth.ca/~eric.charney/dumb

to put stuff on ipod same idea to do all at once if its not on auto update click on the first song/video (not from limewire though from itunes) then hold down shift and click the last song you want then click and drag to the ipod button

shakalaka

For the movies you have to put them under MOVIES section of Itunes.

Once you've got all the song in your Library, you can sort them out into playslits the way you want. Basically bottom left side of the Itunes, everything under 'PLAYSLITS' will go in your Ipodl. So you have to get your songs from music to the Playlists. Now you can sort them out the way you want, or just leave them. Sort them out say according to Genre, Artists etc etc. If you want to keep it simple what you can do is just make a playlist and label it as 'ALL SONGS', and then just go into your Library and press CTRL + A, that should highlight all the songs you have and click and drag them to the playlist you just made.

And now when you connect your Ipod, it should automatically sync your music and you should have that playlist with all those songs in your Ipod.

Also if you read the manual you can learn much much more, such as Smart Playlists and such, but if you just want music and can't be arsed with sorting them out, then that's prolly the easiest way.

For videos I just click and drag. So go to the folder with videos and highlight the video you want and drag it to the MOVIES section under LIBRARY.

Also when you look for videos make sure they are for Ipod. If I am searching on torrents I look for, 'Ipod Videos' same with limewire.

Well it says MOVIES, either you can have it open and since it's empty it should be all black. You can drag the file on there. Or you can also drag the files on the actual title on the side which reads Movies.

harley11
01-10-2007, 03:08 AM
Problem:

Okay i drag the video using my videos folder over to itunes black movie screen and nothing happens

yes movie libary is a black screen and empty

IM A NUBBY

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 03:10 AM
You don't drag the videos folder, you drag the INDIVIDUAL movie files. If you dragging more then one at the same time, then press CTRL + A to highlight them all and then drag.

EDIT: All the 6 gig of my video files are in mp4 format.

harley11
01-10-2007, 03:12 AM
Okay:

Okay i opened MY VIDEOS Folder from start menu yada yada yada and found 1 video and dragged that sucker over to the black screen and nothing happens.

TYPE OF FILE: MPEG-4 Movie

SIZE: 64.7 MB (67,894,491 bytes)

This is the only movie i have thats mpeg-4 all the rest are 640x320 from my digital camera from road trips

I really wanna say thanks for helping me out by the way! :)

Are you sure you are dragging it to the Movies section under Library? Cauz it should work, itunes would start transfering the file.
Check the extention of the file, does it end with .mp4?

Right Click on the file --> Properties-->URL

See if the URL ends with .mp4. Should be that in the end of the long ass thing. That's just to make sure that it's the .mp4 file that will work on Ipods. Selecting that and dragging it into Movies under Library should work.

ercchry
01-10-2007, 03:19 AM
click it once to select it then click and drag and dont let go till there is a little box on the bottom right of the curser

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 03:21 AM
^What he said, there should be a little '+' sign as well.

harley11
01-10-2007, 03:25 AM
nada....just that do not enter kinda sign stays there

ercchry
01-10-2007, 03:29 AM
then its the wrong format i think mpeg4 is mp4 but i guess not if its not workin so yeah mp4 only

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 03:30 AM
Mate then you are not dragging it into the right place. You must drag it into MOVIES under LIBRARY. Are you sure you're doing that? Cauz then it should work no problems.
Make sure you check the properties, it should end with .MP4.

harley11
01-10-2007, 03:32 AM
I am draging it to the right place.....i swear..lol

MOVIES under LIBRARY ..............CHECK!!!!

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 03:36 AM
Did you check it's the right format of the movie? You check Right Click --> Properties?

The long ass extention should end with .MP4

shakalaka

Sorry that pic ain't bigger, but basically it is the location of the movie, and has it's full name. Should end with .MP4

Okay i think this is where im getting lost.....

Reason:

I have to go to the video which i now have put on my desktop so i can find it easily.

I right click on it and go to properties? If so all i see is a bunch of numbers (which i already posted above size and what not) and where its saved to (my documents my videos) thats all i see....so i must be going somewhere wrong ???? im sorry! :(

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 03:46 AM
No that's right. So you look the place which says where it is saved and everything. And at the end of that should be the file name in full. What does that line end with?

harley11
01-10-2007, 03:48 AM
C:\Documents and Settings\2BLUE\My Documents\My Videos

is that what you meant?

01-10-2007, 03:53 AM
I just watched that video. Under Library section first option is Music right? Does it say Movies under that? Couldn't make out from the video seems like it had a longer name.

Anyways the Type of File should read MPEG-4 Movie. Is that right?

No actually it should work either way. Does for me.

EDIT: Since it currently open with WMP right now, that might be the problem. Maybe it has to be Quicktime, since Itunes uses that.

EDIT X 2: Not sure if this makes any difference. But you know how you went into properties. There under type of files there is an option which says, OPENS WITH, right now it's Windows Media Player. Change that to Quick Time, and then try it. I don't know, doesn't seem like it should make a difference, but I guess just give it a shot, and try restarting Itunes as well.

In your Itunes under LIBRARY, it says MUSIC right? What does it say under Music? From the video I can't tell, but the term seems to be too long to be MOVIES. That's what it says on mine.

That is so fucking weird. Cauz mine works fine, when I do exactly what I told you.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/karanaujla/ad.jpg

I think it just might have something to do with the file then. Try searching for IPOD VIDEOS in Limewire under Videos section, and try putting one of those in there.

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 04:27 AM
Try with the real file, that actually could be the problem.

Now is it going to upload everything or just the movies??????

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 04:39 AM
lol well CONGRATULATIONS mate. Must have been something with that video then. Now just connect the ipod and it should automatically update everything on it.

You can select what you want to upload once you connect it and stuff, but I suggest you don't play around with that or it get's too complicated. Also you can't just sync this ipod with any computer once it's synced with one. If say you want songs from your friends computer, sadly you cant do that without deleting what you already have. Similarly if you do that and come back to put yours back in, it will delete your friends.

harley11

Now my question is everytime i plug the ipod into the computer will it reload these songs and double them ????

ercchry
01-10-2007, 04:46 AM
not inless you change the names of them it wont

but if you do want to hook it up to another comp and get there music all you have to do is set it to manual and just drag em from the library and you are set

Nope but if you keep on adding new songs say from limewire, it will just keep on updating those. So you'll have the new one's among the old one's.

A beer? More like a dozen mate. lol Anyways enjoy your ipod, great music/video experience ahead. Today in the gym I spent over an hour on the cycle and didn't even realize because I was watching Ali G show on my ipod. Apparently i was laughin out loud and everyone was little freaked out. hahah

I just have another question :

If i take my own video on my digital camera how do i meake it beable to go on the ipod???

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 01:06 PM
I am not sure what format your video camera records in, so whatever it is you need that to .mp4 convertor I would assume.

If it's avi then you need avi to mp4 converting software. Go on www.download.com, you can find plenty of them, just need to search for the right thing and stuff.

harley11
01-10-2007, 02:28 PM
Yes its avi file. Im leaving to go on a bit of a roadtrip today. Heading out to bc. I do these roadtrips lots...lol...I love seeking new country... http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-5035388598125179737&q=2blue Ill be back more then likely friday. Just in case youre wondering why im not awnsering back.

Next question:

I just loaded 35 movies on limewire.

There in my movie folder.

But when i drag them over to itunes only some load on itunes. There all mp4 files.

So my question is how do i know which ones are going to load properley and which ones won't? Or is there no way to know?

Thanks...

p.s. When i get into revelstoke ill check the laptop and see if i have wireless and awnser you back.

shakalaka
01-10-2007, 03:02 PM
Those vidoes are quite cool, seems like a lot of fun, driving through shit loads of snow like that.

To answer your question, I think that's just something to do with the files, really. I for that reason specifically only download stuf that says, 'Ipod Videos' that way I avoid getting the files that won't work.

As far as I know, all the videos should work if they are in right format and everything. Some of the files I downloaded as Ipod Videos didn't work for me either, but I couldn't really figure out why. Their extention was little off, so I figured that must be why, but I just discarded those.

If you use torrents to download stuff other than limewire, let me know, I can tell you shit loads of torrent websites some which are just designated to Ipod stuff only.

harley11
01-10-2007, 10:18 PM
Okay im here in revelstoke. There's tons of snow. I will show you them when i get back. I even had to break a nissan maxima window to let a guy in his car that took a piss and locked his doors on the rogers pass. Anyways have a good one. And i will be back shortley to learn more computer crap :)
