Looking for a new jack, any brand doesn't matter (as long as it isn't a cheap, off-the-china-boat-jack-that-will-break-and-kill-me-in-2-uses-or-less!)

Only things are

1) Under $150

2) Has a *minimum* depth of 4'' or less.

The problem I'm having is I find a jack that is nicely priced but cheap junk, or is nicely priced but minimum depth is 5'', or has a depth of 3 1/2 - 4'' but is 300.

Have you looked at Mastercraft and Craftsman jacks at canadian tire and sears?

Try costco, they have a few in your price range.

Costco has a 2 tonne jack for 30$, I bought it, and put it in the trunk, haven't actually used it yet though.

Costco, generally, doesn't sell that much crap though, i trust their products. But i don't know.

yes - unfortunately they either don't specify the minimum depth (ust the maximum) or depth is around 5''

There's a low profile aluminum one made by Michelin that sometimes goes on sale at Canadian Tire for $200. Regular price is $300.

I have a $80 Mastercraft 3 Tonne jack and it works flawlessly. It's too high so I usually drive up on boards or use my spare tire scissor jack to get it started.

Yes, I've seen that jack - ?/unfortunately/? a jack, imho, isn't worth $200 so i refuse to buy it:D

it's a great jack actually... i think the reason why it's so much is because it's all aluminum and super low profile. I also have another jack that my dad got from Costco about 15 years ago and its held up really really well.

well the stuff at princess auto is china boat, but they are actually decent from my experience and have a lifetime warranty. there really should be no situation where a jack should endanger your life though. if the seals are gone, the car wont lift up or stay up which is fairly obvious (assuming everyone is aware that you never use a hydraulic jack without jackstands)

yea - i have had my eye on the 2 1/2ton jack there, but still, 199 is not worth it for a jack! supposedly they go on sale, but until then I guess i just have to keep on waiting

at princess auto they will give you the last sale price 90% of the time, you just have to ask the staff to check for you. their computers tell them of past (but not future) sales, just ask for the sale price
