I was wondering if you guys knew how much a custom box in the spare tire well would cost. Just the box and nothing else, TIA.

I'm assuming fibreglass? For how many and what size? I think a couple hundred bucks would be reasonable, assuming a single 12".

well I was gonna buy a used one, and yes its fiberglass. I don't know how big though, fits a 14" spare from a Prelude? haha.

haha, I'm WAY too lazy man. And I heard fiberglass is a total bitch to work with. But if your willing to give me a hand I'll give you a few bucks for it! haha.

you should seriously consider doing it yourself. it's quite easy since you're putting it in the spare tire well.

It's not that hard, can you use power tools? Lazy me azz, just take some time off from Domo

how long would it take to DIY? And let me reiterate. Why would I make my own when I can buy a used one? hahaha. That's why I'm wondering how much they're worth. Then I can weigh out the differences in DIY vs. buying it. haha. Actually its more like doing work vs. paying money.

Well if it's for specifically for a 5th gen lude, and assumming it has the top cover i would say maybe $200 at the most. You can honestly do it yourself for around $50, i think the hardest part would to cut the MDF to fit the contours of the truck. If it's hot enough out side you could probably have it finished in a day or so depending on how good you are with wood.

cardboard works wonders for a mock up of the panel

But I haven't done anything like that since shop class in grade 9 hahaha. So I wouldn't be that good at it. But if you wanna give it a shot, I'm all for it!:D

made specifically for the lude, i'd say about $150-$250

i'd really first ask what kind of sub and all that first before you deside to do anything yet..

because if you simply uses your spare tire space as the actual box, you can simply uses a HDF for the lid and such, sounds quality will be a whole lot better than going fyberglass since it's in the spare tire well....

and using hdf as a lid is super easy to diy as well.... i'd really recommend that idea..

even though fiberglass does gave you better looks, but afterall the chances of you listening to it is a whole lot more than you see it, right ?

however it's just my 2 cents ^_^ ...... :P

i think it totally depends on teh box, if it's just a flat panel box that fits in yoru wheel well, it shouldn't cost anymore than $200 to build, plus paint . . .

yeah I'm not looking for some crazy trick ass system, just something I can hide better and I can have more trunk space.

i had a custom fiberglass sub box built to fit in the spare tire well a few years ago. cost was ~$500 for just the box. not sure about the prelude but 10" sub was the biggest i could get to fit.

very easy to do, if all your doing is a fiberglass tub and a mdf baffle it will run you around the 125-150 range. you could easily have it done in one day. ive done it before, so if you want a hand buh_buh, i can help.

Thanks for the offer Illusionsir. I might just take you up on that offer. If I make it out of fiberglass is it there permanently? Like am I able to take it out for track days and stuff?

I'm curious.... Is having the fiberglass significantly lighter then, say, the conventional carpetted mdf??

a couple of pounds.. depends how big your box is.. some boxes can weigh up to 50 lbs witht he subs in it so yea it can make like a 10-20 lbs difference all depends on the sub and the room you have!

so what would you say an average fiberglass set up, with one sub and mounting for an amp, would weigh (roughly)?

well this is my cuzins set up in his teg gs-r weighs roughly 10-15 lbs with the sub and amp and the box. the sub was a 10 inch kicker comp and a monoblock kicker amp.
