When you have a hot pot in the middle of the table that boils water + spices and you throw in thinly sliced raw meats, veggies, shrimp, etc. Most of the time it's lamb... anyone know what it's called in English?

I've never seen lamb at a hot pot though. There's a place on 7th ave and center NE that does a 1 hour all you can eat...

I eat lamb hot pot at home all the time. You can buy the meat at most Chinese butchers. It's just that most Chinese restaurants in Calgary aren't willing to do it because it does stink up the place a bit.

Is that Cantonese? I know in Mandarin it's "swan" (phonetically like 'calculate,' dunno what it means) "young" (lamb) "roe" (meat)

I find lamb hotpot pretty common, though I can't recommend a hot pot place in town as I do it myself. You can get seasoned chicken/pork/beef/lamb, fish, squid, shrimp, geoduck (mmm) and all the balls and veggies at T&T also.

Put some tofu in and drink the soup after, good times!

Cantonese - Da Bin Lo (¥´ÃäÄl)
Mandarin - Hwoh gwoh (¤õÁç)
Japanese - Shabu shabu

Get the Lamb shoulder slices from T&T supermarket, they are very thiny sliced and prepared especially for hot pot. UBER yummy with Sha Cha Sauce (¨F¯ùÂæ)!!

What do you call the fried rice that is served in a bowl that is covered with two sauces? Half is usually a white cream sauce, and the other half is a orange tomato sauce. When I had it in Vancouver it was called "honeymoon fried rice". Whats the chinese name? Thanks:thumbsup:
