"On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit."

Pretty sure this is a repost because I've had it on a DVD for a while now... called "Rendevous"

Nice driving skills by him, would have been better to have a speedometer going as well.

+ 1 for not hitting anything. Amazing!! And that car sounds siiick. Would have been cool to see a speedo, but still great nonetheless.

A nice video, but unfortunately a complete fraud. The camera was on the front of a Benz with the film sped up and the soundtrack dubbed over.

In promotions, by fans and in various internet discussions, it is often claimed or speculated that the film uses Lelouch's own Ferrari 275 GTB, some other Ferrari type, an Alpine, or even a Le Mans prototype race car (largely believed to be a Matra, which was a successful racer a few years before the filming). Some even boldly state the type or color of the car, despite it never being seen. For the anonymous driver, professional racers of the time like Jacques Laffite, Jacky Ickx or Petar Vranesevic were suspected.

Calculations made by several independent groups showed that the car never exceeded 140 km/h (85 mph).[1] Lelouch himself claimed that the top speed achieved was over 200 km/h, somewhere between 230 km/h and 240 km/h.[2]

Comments from Lelouch prove that the vehicle that carried the camera was his Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9.[3] A picture was released of Lelouch working with the gyro stabilized camera on his Mercedes. This model, which could reach a top speed of 235 km/h, was only available with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Yet, one can hear gear changes up into 5th, with a high-revving engine indicating speeds of well over 200 km/h. Sometimes it can be heard that the driver missed gears as he attempted to shift as fast as possible, something which is impossible with the automatic transmission, proving that the sound was dubbed.

A May 2006 Making of the rendezvous documentary indicates that Lelouch himself was the driver, that the car driven was the Mercedes, although the sound track is from a Ferrari. One observer was posted close to the Louvre palace at a blind junction (archway) to assist the driver.

This was done with the help of spotters. Watch at the 3:40 mark-thru the blind tunnel you see two flashes of a light to the right to indicate it is all clear.

How does that explain the indicators blinking at regular speed on cars which are switching lanes?

well that could have been cool. mind you, the merc. 6.9 wasnt really a slouch either, but it seems fairly obvious that its too slow to be a F1 car

^ i had the same thoughts, if it was going 200+km/h it should have blown pass those traffic cars with ease.. unless everyone in Paris is doing 150km/h

Either way, it was a neat little clip to watch

How would you dubb that, seems to be shifting at all the right places, revs consistent with the speed, wouldnt you have to drive the same route and record it lol, maybe im being confused
