View Full Version : Top Gun Coatings FTMFW!!!

Just got my wheels back from Top Gun Powdercoating. I brought my OEM wheels in for a gold powdercoat, and they did an awesome job for a very good price. I wanted the same crinkled texture as my old TE37s on my civic, and they said they could get a good texture using the matte clear finish. And boy did they ever.

Highly recommend them to anyone who needs powerdercoating done.

Here are the pics, one set without flash, other set with...

Excuse the crappy pics, they were taken with my phone, I'll get better camera pics up later.

$450 for my set of 18's... that was strip, prepped, coated, and clear... price may vary depending on what you want, sizing, etc...

Yes, located in the northeast... don't know if I can post non-sponsor contact info, so just do a search on google and you should find it... ;)

So nice man!

As per our previous discussion some time ago, I am thinking a nice set of gold wheels (20's) with proper tires with a chrome lip would look pretty good on my X.

One day...hopefully soon. Can't wait to see your wheel set on the Runner.

I can vouch for TGC as well. I used to work for the Harley dealership off MacKnight, and we got all our powdercoating done there. They are super reasonable price wise I found, and do an excellent job with anything we threw at them. Considering most of the customers we dealt with were pretty picky, noone ever complained about any of the powdercoating work.

Just my 2 cents

it was just personal preference since my Volks on my civic were like that... and its less maintenance, i don't have to worry about surface scratches and shiet like if it was a smooth finish...

you are seeing right, it is not as thick in those areas, but I don't really mind, because my lugs will be in there anyways...

Nice tires! Those are almost the same tires as those on the new S2000's! Didn't think that a truck and a sportscar would share tires.
Anyways, the rims are looking hot! I am looking to powdercoat some rims too, how much did it cost you?

when powercoating wheels, do they allways come out like that or can they make them smooth too?

I have used op Gun Coatings many times and they have always done great work.

They powdercoated my wheels a couple years back and the wheels still look new!

I took basically every metal part from my motor to them when I was doing my Supra build, it looked sooooo sexy when it was done!

I believe they can make the surface smooth (they normally are). I wanted mine with a texture, and they werent even sure if it would work. But it did! :D

Question though. Have you heard or does anybody know if powdercoating weakens the wheel? Is this true or a no? I really want to do mine black but I am afraid of weakening them.

I did read about that issue, and did alot of internet research on the strength issue, and as well looked into the issue of outgassing. The weakness issue comes into play if it is baked above a certain temperature, weakening the aluminum. TGC assured me that there would be no issues as they keep the oven within the safe temperature. And as outgassing is concerned, it all would've occured already as the wheels have been done for about a month already, just didn't get a chance to pick them up until now.

I had a good experience, so I'm letting everyone know...

And I had to satisfy my curiousity of what they would look like on my truck, so even with the snow, I threw one side on to take pics... not leaving them on though, I could barely get back on my driveway...
