Need Advice: Insurance

A family member got into a relatively minor collision and both parties have decided to deal with it outside of insurance. The other party agrees to a certain settlement amount, I want them to sign something basically saying case closed.

Anyone have any experience? I just want to have the bases covered.

Just make up a formal agreement that this issue will not be handled through insurance, and will be settled verbally/monetarily.

I would write some kind of contract up and get them to sign it with witnesses to sign it as well. That way you have a written agreement that the case has been settled without insurance.
