I just got a quote for 4 tires from Tirecraft on Macleod for $1400 mounted and balanced. I can get the same tire size from the Tire rack for $620 USD shipped to my door. What am I gonna pay in duties and brokerage from UPS? I am affraid that I am gonna get raped by them on these costs... anyone done this and was it worth it at all? The tires are made in germany, so I will have to pay duty

I got my winter tires shipped from tire rack about 400 dollars for the tire cost and total cost was about 550 so about 150 in shipping, duty and gst.

If the difference is that much it sounds like you will still come out on top. The prices are so cheap on that site I want to buy 10 sets of tires and sell them on Beyond.

What kind of tires are they? Try 1010tires or tiretrends, they are both canadian companies. Shipping from 1010tires is pretty cheap too.

You are going to pay around 200 dollars in brokerage. Big deal.

tirerack is by far the chepeast place i've ever seen. 1010tires is expensive (if you don't believe me, compare identical tires on both sites). Even after duty (which can be around $150, I paid $130 for 5 tires) and mounting/balancing you should come out on top.

I buy all my tires from tire rack - local places are such a HUGE rip-off it isn't even funny.

Tiretrends ended up being cheaper than Tirerack when I got my tires. Not by much, but I didn't have to deal with the "mystery" brokerage fees which was nice.

Wow beating tirerack's prices locally?! Thats amazing, I'd do that if you can. Tire rack is sweet and most of the time you will still save after brokerage and shit compared to local.

I dunno brokerage/duty can add up. My dad got a set of Bridgestone Potenza S-03's and he had to pay about 400-500 for brokerage. However they are considerably more expensive then your average "tuner" tire. Entirely dependent on how much they are.

Go locally if you can.

Duty should only be 6% GST. Then you have the exchange rate, then UPS gouges you for random amounts based on the Suns' distance from Pluto at that time of the year.

IIRC Duty is 4.1% and the 6% GTS ontop of (price+duty).

Do they have a number to call them at? I tries the number on their site (888-541-1777) but it says it is not avail. in my area, so im guessing it is a stateside only number.

How much has UPS charged you guys for "bullshit"? Please also state how much your tires were.

Id go with tirerack just from the volume ive delt with them. i ordered over 50 sets for friends and people ive refered and everytime they were shipped asap and were properly mounted and taken care of. and the one time i had a damaged rim and a gauged (sp?) they were right on top to send a replacment and take the damaged back.

+1 for tirerack. plus they have good prices. shops have markup to deal with profit.

Brad. just my 2 cents

I checked on TireRack and the price is $367.54 including shipping for 225-50R16 Kumho ASX's.

That's $459.43 Canadian (you don't get exact exchange rate on Credit Card ~ exchange is ~1.25.)

UPS will charge me GST + brokerage fees. A conservative estimate is $150. That brings the tires up to $609.43. I NOW have to find someone to install them at around $10-20 a tire. Lets round it off at $15 a tire or another $60. That brings my cost for 225-50R16 to $670.

I just dropped off my rims to MYTIRE. The cost including installation GST and the levy is $623.

Please help me understand HOW it is cheaper to buy tires from Tirerack again? 1010Tires to my door delivered was $684.76 plus another $60 for install. I guess the bottom line is that when you order tires, check the TRUE costs.

Well you can completly avoid brokerage by shipping the tires from tirerack to the montana border and then pick them up yourself.

I bought my wheels + tires from tirerack a year and a half ago and I had UPS shipped them to my door. Total cost came to about 250 dollars for brokage + duty + GST. Still was a heck of alot cheaper than anywhere local (mainly because of the rims).

My Tires, Anand is great and will usually be on par with tire racks pricing if not better, i say support local business.

I was just quoted a price of $311/tire from mytires, but I can get the SAME tire off tirerack for $148(USD)/tire...

That is more than double what I can get them off tirerack PER TIRE...how would I go about approaching Anand to ask him if he will cut his price in half to match tirerack? I would rather get them locally, but everywhere is at least double tirerack...

I got a set of BFG KDW2's for my G last summer, and I paid just under a grand with shipping, exchange, and duty. For the same thing here I was quoted between $1600 - $2000

I just buy from 1010tires, pay a little bit more; I'd rather not have to deal with duties and customs.

so to me it sounds like if your looking for just tires you can get them just as cheap here, but rims and tires go south.

Also don't forget that it depends on the type of tire you are buying, you can buy a set of Michelin Alpin AS installed and balanced at costco (A good tire but still overpriced and not worth it) with a road hazard warranty for less than the base tirerack price ... not including exchange, shipping mounting, warranty.

Tirerack charges about 11-12 bucks cdn per tire for road hazard. It is a lot easier if you buy the tires locally - you know you can just drop the tire off at wherever you bought it and have it fixed no hassles.
