Anybody have any experience with this bike? Im interested in getting a street bike as i allready have the cruiser. I got to ride my one of my buddies CBR 600 and it was a BLAST compared to what im used to. Im just wondering if the DUCATI 749 is a decent bike or if i should be looking into like Jap bikes? been riding for about 4 years.

Haven't ridden the 749, but tried the 999 last year. The twin is a very different feeling from the I4 of my GSX-R 1K. I didn't get to wind it out on the test ride, but obviously with the success of Ducati in Superbike, these bikes are the ultimate track weapon. Probably the least comfortable bike I've ever ridden, but it's not made for touring...it's made to go fast in corners.

Maybe wait for the Ducati Demo Daze in the summer and try one out before you make up your mind. Like anything exotic, they're expensive to buy and maintain, but very cool :)

i have a 2005 749, its a great bike just be prepared to pay the ducati taxes if you plan on buying aftermarket parts and maintenance hits the pocket book pretty hard sometimes.

The 749 is a great bike. As mentioned, not comfortable for long rides, and 10K valve adjustments can be very pricey.
If you are interested you better hurry and grab one since they are no longer in production. Wonder if they will even have one at Desmo Daze? I suggest you do some reading on the www.ducati.ms forum

I considered the 749, but ended up buying the Supersport 1000DS for the 'useable' torque, more than enough power for what I need it for, the 1000DS engine (arguably one of the best ducati engines), cheaper maintenance, and like the ergos better.

Sport Cycle has a 749 Dark sitting in their showroom.
Nice new showroom also. Might be worth a look.

I believe both Sport Cycle and Revoluzione have 1098 launch events this weekend. Might be a good chance to go and check out some bikes....

have ridden a 749s and a 749r on the track.. neat bike.. comparable to any of the big japanese 600cc sportbikes..

gotta decide whether you want a broad twin like power band or a high revving 600..

Ducati demo daze won't have one for a demo. I went last year and all they had were the new ones. The thing with demo rides is you can't really get a good feel for the bike, I can almost guarantee that if you demo'd one even in just the parking lot you'd be in love. Ducatis require more maintenance and like oasis said there's a special tax to pay to be part of the club;). You guys should really consider the 848 if you want a duc, single sided swing arm is the sexiest thing on a bike.

^ If you do consider the 848, and don't mind used, let me know.

My buddy is dishing off his white '08 with ~5000kms for $14000 -$14500 (I forget), to help pay for school. Not sure if this is the best deal or not, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Desmosedici

But the 749 is a nicely balanced bike, with very nice low end grunt.

Doesn't rev and pull like conventional 1liters, and is uncomfortable, but its really a special bike.

My favorite was the 998FE, then the 1098 and 749
