The old one wasn't in Canada either, so I doubt the new one will

im not all that impressed. the gti got better, but it doesnt seem like the r32 is that much of an improvement over the 4th gen r32. also, other than the badge, this looks like a gti

Im not that impressed either... if they price the car like they did like the old R32 then i'd rather get a GTI, chip it, and make more power for less money. Plus it probably weighs more than the regualar GTI.

they just unveiled it? I remember clearly seeing that car in Hong Kong last June ( on a daily places, always parked in front of this one shop). Looks pretty nice.

I wouldnt... the old R32 did the 0-60 in about the same time... and it pretty much had the same engine.

Too bad it wont be coming to canada, but the options are limited. only available in 2 door with DSG. Also, what happened to the wheels:dunno:

You can get one here. They are already available. Its called the Audi A3 and it looks alot better. The Sline version has the 3.2 and AWD.

Very true, and it is probably less money, for a very comparable vehicle. It is a very nice car. Basically same features, not the same following though as the R32.

About the same price. R32 is about 33K USD. A3 with a 3.2 L is 45-50K Canadian so it would probably we a wash here.

It is not all about the performance though, it is an enthusiasts car as shown by the MKIV R32, and how they havnt really depreciated. Also performance wise though there are a ton of upgrades available, some already for this MKV from companies like HPA.

if i had the money i wouldn't buy the r32. my gti is alright but spending in the 40k range there is so much more i'd rather spend my money on. there was rumors of the r32 to be a r36 at one point, but i'm sure size and price came into factor that one out.

i can't even think of a car that i wold buy that's under 30k. i need to look at picking up a car from the states next.

At one point, wasn't Canada going to get the R36?

Not that inspiring to be honest with you. Just sorta plain and not much comes out at me. Very boring. I like the new GTI's though.

I dont think so. There was discussion, and they would need to crash test it, and take and incorporate that cost into the cost of the vehicle, so it raised the price quite substantially for the amount of vehicles that would be allocated here.

The only thing this offers over the GTI is AWD. If they would have offered the GTI in AWD, I think you don't see the R32 sell much at all.

There were so many improvements in this generation of GTI, and the R32 looks to still be stuck in the year 2000.

still not a fan of the mk5 body

but i am sure the performance on the r32 is still amazing

People will snap them up though just like the 337's and 20th AE's. The GTI was greatly improved though compared to the MKIV. There are the little bits that make the R32 special though, such as the interior bits and the rarity, but an AWD GTI would be great, heck even GLI.

Car looks great inside AND out. I'd buy one if they were available here depending on the price. 5K premium over Gti price at most. Anything more is too much.

I'm not a VW fan at all, but the euro version is very nice.
The performance is lackluster for a v6/awd...
Sucks that way, but it looks quite nice, and is likely really nice to drive.
Not cheap.

its not a performance engine, which i think is the problem. its the same engine in the audi a4 3.2 iirc, but a smaller and less powerful motor than that in the passat v6. If this was a 'tuned' 3.2 rather than the parts bin engine thrown in, im sure it would perform better

nope, completly different motor. The 3.2 in the R32 is the narrow angle VR6 motor where as the 3.2 in the A4 is the typical audi 90 degree V6. The audi makes more power (255hp) and has more torque.

I have heard rumours the 08 Gti will get a bump to 230hp?

It that case that's even closer in terms of power.

Yes, it should happen, the 25th AE GTI has 230hp. The bump in power will be nice, and will bring it closer to competitors like the MS3. It will be like the 1.8T which started at 150 and went to 180, then had 220 iirc in the TT.
