2007 Toyota Rav 4 vs. 2007 Honda CR-V

Almost the same price, Rav 4 V6 has more power, not much different in fuel consumption.

"That power increase is probably all but negated by an increase in curb weight: 1,604 kg for our EX test vehicle compared to 1,560 kg for the 2006 CR-V EX. But while it's not exactly swift, this latest CR-V has no problem keeping up with traffic. Driving it back to back with a Toyota RAV4 fitted with a very strong V6, though, the difference in performance is noticeable, naturally. But in everyday driving, particularly for those with a light right foot, the Toyota's available V6 is mostly a nice-to-have for situations like towing. I can't help but wonder if some buyers might defect to the RAV4 for the available six-cylinder power."

:D only if you get the v6. both the i4's are about the same.

they are both priced about the same. all the way up, but with the rave 4 you get substantially more power when you move into the v6 territory. If you are comparing the base 4x4 models then its a toss up really on stats alone (test drive would help decide). As soon as you move up to the v6 the rav4 seems to take the lead by a substantial amount. (IMO)

everything is still reliant on test drives and personal preferences though

Here's my take: the RAV for styling, CR-V for practicality. One thing about the CR-V AWD system is that you need to make it slip before it kicks in. So it's really only good for standing starts. My parents have an 02 and it plows like any other FWD car. My sister has the first gen RAV, and it is pretty good in the snow.

I personally think the 07 CR-V is butt ugleeeee, while the RAV is just gorgeous.

Have you considered the Hyundai? The warranty is really hard to beat, and it looks good too. For me personally, I'd get the Forester. I've totally fallen for all things Subie.

We had this exact choice last year with the 06 models, we chose the Rav4 because the interior and exterior were much nicer.
I liked the feel of the Toyota more and so did my parents.

EDIT: We test drove both the I-4 and V6 Toyotas as well and I thought that the power difference wasn't really worth the price difference. In the end we went wiht the Rav

After driving the Rav4 V6, it usually seals the deal. You will always have a grin on your face.

i really like the suzuki grand vitara. I love the styling, but i dont know about reliability too much, and it still uses a body on frame concept rather than unibody which is wierd. Any-hoeee, thats me, and i wouldnt buy one as im not interested in an suv at this point.

i think looking at hyundai is a good idea as well

Rav4's FTW

I am surprised no one has mentioned one of the last gen 4runners

I LOVE THOSE!

CRV's have always looked/felt cheaper to me IMO

Cause 4Runners aren't even in the same class of vehicle. This is like someone saying they want to buy a Civic, and then telling them they should get a TSX.

A while back the girlfriend was trying to make the same decision, but back then the new CRV was hard to get. We drove a ton of vehicles and she loved the Rav4 except for the horrible seats. Neither of us found them to be comfortable. They felt hard in the wrong places, and the seat bottoms were not deep enough for proper leg support. It handled well and the stability/traction control worked very well. They V6 power was great for highway.

The base CRV was out, she didnt like the interior. The next model up was better, but after driving the Rav 4 it felt slow and sluggish. As well the brakes, in typical honda fashion, did not seem up to par with the other vehicles.

She also really liked the CX7 except for the fact that it takes premium gas, so its a couple of bucks more every time you fill up. And the Goodyear RSA tires make excellent allseasons, just not good in the winter in calgary. The Stability control in the Rav4 seemed to be more effective for the way she drives. That being said the DSC in the CX7 is more fun if you like a bit of oversteer.

The other vehicle to look for is the new Nissan Rogue. It will be coming out in the fall. 2.5L 4 cylinder with more power than the CRV, and a CVT with a sport mode, so it can make better use of that power.

how does that even make sense?

I could see comparing a civic to an accord, but a 4 runner and a rav 4 are both SUV's, both toyotas, both 4x4

Rav4 FTW

We just bought one a couple of months ago for the wife to drive. We got the V6 because we will be towing a tent trailer with it.

The thing is rock solid in this weather. Very easy to drive, good visiblity. I'm very happy with the purchase.

A 4runner is a truck based SUV, with a transfer case. Rav4 is a car based SUV with a center differential.

Rav4 V6 FTW!!!

CR-V is overpriced and has a poor excuse for an engine.

Test drove all thit shit year before last when deciding on a car.

CRV
Rav
XL7
Forester
Odyssey
Ridgeline
Sienna
Montana
Tribute
Xtrail

Wound up buying a Legacy best bang for the buck by a long shot.
As much storage space as the small SUV's - AWD and ... refined.

I am pretty sure the new vitara uses unibody now and it won the motoring 2006 small suv of the year. Take a look at it and it might well surprise you. so is the hyundai tucson. There is a lot of choice in this category. might as well have a look at both import and domestic small suvs. :D

I bought an 04 rav4 waiting till i turn 25 and can afford insurance on a new vehicle. I origionally was going to go for a sports car but after taking a ride in the new V6 rav, i think that is my choice. THe fuel economy is still pretty good and i think rav4's look just beautiful.
