They're good out of water for up to 24 hours if they're refrigerated. Any chance you can get them into your fridge?

Just make sure that once he gets them, he cuts ~1" of the stems at an angle and puts them in HOT water.

Just ask the person taht works at your place, Im getting mine at Metro Element, they seem to know what they are doing.

Definitely do not do that. They will freeze and wilt as soon as they thaw out. The other alternative is to call a florist, book ahead, and pick them up on the way to see her.

Are you kidding?
My parents own a florist and I've worked there, by no means do you want to even put roses in anything but COLD water. Unless you want them to open and die in the span of 2 hours.
Also, they will be fine outside of water for 5 hours. It's not wise to stick them in a normal fridge though, it's different than a walk in cooler florists have. When you do get around to putting them in water, if the ends are dried, snip a bit off the ends and use a pack of floral preservative.

the girl im getting for said she liked roses the most :P so har har, otherwise i woulda got something that had birds of paradise in it

But yea, putting them in car would probably be a bad idea like someone above mentioned. Im just picking them up in the morning and carrying them around with me, I may look like an idiot, but im beating the rush and my flowers wont die either :D

For girls that age you should be considering barbie dolls instead of roses, at least she can play with those after school.

It really depends on the girl. Some girls see it as being wasteful, while others think of it as thoughtful.

Once I wrapped the stems in some damp paper towel and they were fine for 5-6 hours out in the openish.

Oh yea, then she cut the ends a bit before she put them in the water.
