Is there a schedule for when studios can submit a film for oscar consideration? I had an argument with someone about this, I am pretty sure that there is a specific time period to release movies to make them eligible to win an oscar.

If a film is released anytime from January 1st, 2007 - December 31st, 2007 - does that make it eligible for the oscars in 2008?

OR

When is the 'cut-off' for films being released in 2007, to be considered for an oscar in 2008?

Can someone clarify how the schedule works, I can't find any info on this!

Today, according to Rules 2 and 3 of the official Academy Awards Rules, a film has to open in the previous calendar year (from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31) in Los Angeles County, California, to qualify.
