I'm looking at importing a Mitsubishi Evo8 or 9 MR as a toy. I want to keep it as a show car/solo racer. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this. I know the car can't be registered or driven on public roads. What's the process?

You should start by checking on www.riv.ca

But I think those cars are inadmissable, and I think RIV governs all cars 15 years or newer.

There are certain rules which allow you to bring in newer cars restricted by customs, and a strict race/show car is one of them. However, it's not that easy, you'll have to talk to someone who imports them full time. There's still restrictions even if you get it.

What kind of restriction? Who's importing them full time.

You need a shop to "PROVE" your showing it... or some way to prove its for race purpose..

VERY VERY hard and exspensive to do this.

Yes, you need to show the proper paperwork when importing it. If you want me to talk to some people I know about seriously having them import it for you (one of them owns a Lancer GTR in Japan right now awaiting import) then PM me.

From what i have learned you can import a car on a student visa if your a US citizen and want to go to school in canada. If you have a relative or a really close friend in the US, they could buy the car in their name and you can drive it into canada and be here for a max of 3 months before the car has to go back. so you could drive it down for a weekend and come right back again for 3 months.

Read the rules carefully. It's actually not too hard or expensive to import something like this, except it's only allowed in the country for a maximum of 3 years (renewable yearly).
