I got back from a drive to BC so I was able to see if the FOrd could not inhale the fuel.

These results were with 4 people in the car and a lot of bags.
Roads included some hills, and conservative driving.
Revelstoke to Cochrien(sp?).

36.78L went 372km
10.11km/L 28.56mpg
That's pretty good I think.

City driving, that's another story.
With only lightly 'spirited' driving in Calgary:
7.28Km/L 20.56mpg

My 1991 Integra could always get between
10.5Km/L and 12.25KM/L 29.66 to 34.6mpg
City or highway w/ non-conservative driving.

Oh, and the Teg took Regular. The Mustang will take premium one it's blown again.

I went through 2/3s of a tank of gas in 90km at the lapping day

gah! how were your temps? I'm running ~195-200 on average and up to 215 once.

I guess you don't have a # temp gauge though, but how was your temp color gauge?

Sat right in the middle the whole time. An upgraded gauge package is on the list of upgrades. From what I've been seening on some mailing lists, 195 or so is about normal for regular operation, even heavy duty stuff like road course.

hmmm, I know mine would go above 215 w/ heavy driving on a hot day. I just had a rad flush too. Maybe aluminum Rad and electric fan upgrade time $$$.

If you get a fuel pressure gauge, make sure you get an electrical isolator. I have a liquid one and just had to fix and air lock it had.

The fan clutch in ours is shot, so we're going to go to an electric fan soon. Apparently, putting a front air dam on the front of the car can help with cooling issues, getting more air to flow through the rad instead of under the car. Go to yahoogroups and search the rrax-mustang archive for cooling problems, lots of great info in there.

For gauges, we're going to go all out. Fuel pressure, oil pressure, exhaust temp, coolant temp, oil temp, A/F ratio. Want to try and keep this motor healthy, along wtih any other motors that might go into the car.

have you priced a rebuild or new crate motor?

I got 20-21 mpg going to Edmonton and back, in a 1.5L... City is actually higher, around 29-30 mpg.

Lots of options for motors, we haven't decided what we are going to do yet. A 331 or 347 stroker is a possibility. Might go forced induction. More worried about suspension stuff right now, want to get that and the brakes sorted before we go for more power. Engine work is at least a year in the future at the moment, beyond some basic bolt ons.

I'm getting concerned about the heat too.During hwy driving , the temp sits around 185f , but in city traffic ,200-210f with the heater on !! . The rad has over 190,000 kms on it, so it's probably time to replace it. BTW what thermostat are you using ?? I have a 180f ,and it does help . Stock is 192f I believe...
