My wife has an old Tellus pay-as-you-go phone that is about five years old and a piece of crap. It is an older phone that does not have SIM card. What are the options? She just needs a cheap phone, doesn't need a camera, or any other gizmos.
I see cheap phones on ebay, just buy one and start using it? I assume she will lose her number, which realy isn't a big deal.

Go to the futureshop site and search "refurbished"
they usually have decent phones there for under $100, and they usually come with a $50 airtime credit..I've had a couple of these over the years, they're great

check these links all under $70, and they come with a $50 intial prepaid credit so the phones are pretty much free!

That sounds great. What about the phone number?
I used to work there, what exactly are you asking? You want to start a new pay as you go plan? You want to continue your old one?

I'm 99% sure you have to get a new number when u buy a new phone, unless u go to the store and get them to transfer the number if that's possible with telus
Just replacing the phone, yes you can keep your number. It's $25 to switch it over to the new phone, or you can do it online on their website for $10. You can also find some cheap refurbished phones on their website for under $100 and they're really not bad.

i dont know if that applies to pay as you go...because that is deffinately true for plans.
and yeah for 80$ you can get a 50$ phone card and a brand new samsung color phone. for 100$ you can get the camera phone, but you already stated that you dont need it.

pretty sure its 90 days now, that if you don't have an active account for pay&go you lose your number..
you do get the 50$ card with a new purchase, but its 10$ to sign the phone up online yourslef, or 35? I think to call and have them set it up...
I grabbed one a couple of months back in a hurry, but I'll be switching over to a contract now, too damn expensive, I just need it for work, so they can get in touch with me...
Oh, and if you let the mins run out it gets worse.. you start at a rate of 25cents/min with telus, if they run out you buy a new card, 10$=new rate of 44cents min, 25$card=33cents and 50$ card= 25 cents, so you have to spend 50bux to get back to their cheapest rate of 25cents/min..
For Telus pay as you go yes it is 90 days and you lose that number but that's only if you leave it for 90 days with a zero balance in the account.
You can simply buy a new phone and have the number switched to the new phone. You don't have to get a brand new number at all if you don't want too.
At most dealerships the switch over fee is around $35.
