So I have been debating picking up a daily driver. Big fan of toyota but have been having some trouble deciding between the soarer or the aristo. Other then the engine (which are very similar to begin with) what else should I be looking for when deciding between these two cars? What one has more features etc. I know I could make a thread about their Lexus counterparts that we have here, but from my understanding there are quite a few differences in certain places on the j-spec versions of these cars. Thanks a ton guys.

The Soarer doesn't have a lot of space.. It's a 2 door car.

The aristo is a 4-door sedan (AFAIK) so it should be a lot roomier

It all depends on what you're looking for. They're both heavy vehicles but go like a bat out of hell. My dad has a '91 Soarer and it's a really really fun car to drive. The twin-turbo engine delivers a lot of good performance since it has a 2JZ engine (Supra-style) and the handling is very good.

You obviously have no understanding of what "sedan" means.

The soarer has alot of room in it, and with the parts being interchangable with the Lexus Sc400, its the way I personally would go for a daily driver.

I'd prefer driving a 4 door over a 2 door for a daily driver.

The Aristo looks pretty nice.

Aristo.

2JZ-GTE was found in North America and hence parts are available for it. The 1JZ found in the Soarer wasn't.

but all 2jz parts can go on 1jz

soarer i like the look, but it handles terrible, maybe im just used to stiff suspension and not stock, has lots of room, the 1jz soarer is pretty quick, the v8 one is friggin pimp leather interior and all that junk.

aristo, 2jz, but imo doesnt look that great, i`d pick a laurel or a cefiro over aristo in terms of looks, 2jz > * though

LOL! good things come to those who wait... and I've been waiting a hell of a long time! so another couple days isn't gonna hurt... I'll do a nice big thread when it gets here....

Some useful info though:

As far as I can tell,
the 1jz Soarer weighs in at 1560kg
the 2jz aristo weighs in at 1680kg
and for comparison the mk4 supra weighs 1510kg
and for relativity the Sw20 weighs 1290kg

which isn't that big of a difference between the sport sedan Aristo, luxury coupe Soarer, and the sporty Supra.

If you take the Toyota rated power output of the 1jz and 2jz as correct (it isn't) thay both produce 280+ hp (290ish 1jz, 300ish Aristo's 2jz and the 320ish jdm Supra 2jz) the torque figures is where they differ...

god damn this is a long post, so long in fact that I've got tired of waiting...

I got an completely stock, pristine condition, a kind of gayish silver :( ,unmolested, 47000km...

Good luck with the car! You'll like the Aristo.

Its also a matter of if you want to drive stick or not.
I've been looking at the auctions in Japan and I have only seen one Aristo that is stick. If you want the Aristo bad, and if you got the cash, you can always do the 5/6 speed conversion on it.
Or you can get a 5speed soarer.

I drive an SC400 daily and I love it. Great cars. Go for the Soarer.

k here goes, the much delayed pics of the car I bought. I ended up goin with the Aristo!

And one thing I will say is that it is really large, I mean BIG! It's size in pics is unusually deceptive, and the suspension is very soft and comfy, I'm planning on changing that with some coilovers and sway bars juz it's just a little too soft for my taste (so much for not spending anything on it!).

It also feels very heavy, I dunno why, but it probably due to the suspension, but it doesn't feel very responsive, and no real reedback through the steering wheel either. Case and point is the lack of a boost guage on the dash cluster; this car was made for a certain class of people who are not concerned with power or handling, just comfort first and foremost.

It drives really nicely, I was expecting it to be faster than my lightly modded 240 (ok maybe not so lightly modded) but it doesn't feel very fast, I dont know why it just doesn't. It's just very smooth and silky.

Verdict: Great car, tons of interior room, smallish trunk, and drives absolutely flawlessly. If you want a high performance sports car, look elsewhere; but if you want a big comfy car that blends in then this just what you need. This car oozes Lexus, not Supra. :thumbsdow

I'll post up an official review, when it passes inspection and I start driving it regularly.

Hmm. Maybe it's just me imagining driving my 2 hours a day in a rhd.. I make several left turns and I think that would make it a lot more annoying. Plus trying to reach across the car to hit the keypad to open the gate... :dunno:

On an unrelated note, isn't a RHD safer for head on collisions on 2 lane highways? :D

As for opening a gate, yeah that's a real bitch. I hate it when I have to hit the button to open the door to a car wash.

Not to make a plug for my own car for sale or anything....

Im a fan of my Aristo, although I am selling it.

Its great on gas on the highway, and enough room for 5 people comfortably. Suspension is soft, but handles fine. I dont know if its the rims or the car itself, but it really turns head. Plus, hit 4000 RPM..... driving on boost is completely insane.
