Let's hope the sky stays clear:

Nice, thanks for the heads up. Is there a time period for this, or does the moon remain eclipsed all night?

Meh, east coast for full effect:

Here in the United States, you have to be in the eastern half of the country to witness totality. At the end of the day on Saturday, go outside and face east.

Renting a 500mm f/4 and a teleconverter seems pretty tempting right now!

Damn it, I just checked my astro software. Looks like we might barely see the end of the eclipse just as it's coming over the horizon, or not even at all :thumbsdow

Yeah I was stoked when I heard about this but then I checked the visibility map. Looks like we get the backend (or ass) of the eclipse. A link with map: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3020737.stm

 Oh well, I'll stick my head out the window anyways. Still a free show, right? ;)

Totallity is at 4:21pm. The moon doesn't rise until almost 50 minutes later, so yeah we won't see anything but the end of it if we're lucky.

Still, if you want to try, look due east right after 5pm.

I was really lucky and got to see the eclipse from Northern Italy - one of the locations where totality was fully visible. Fortunately it was very clear out.

I haven't seen an eclipse like that for years - the blood red of the moon was so striking.
