Is it worth it? I quickly priced out a 335 loaded with sport/premium and it's $58K CDN+taxes vs $45K USD+taxes

You'll have to contact BMW Canada and ask them about warranty. I would just buy the vehicle here since local dealers are known to take a couple grand off the new vehicles. I saved $2500 when I purchased my 330CI from Gallery 3 years ago.

^^ RIV wont tell you if BMW canada will warranty american cars.

I think calling BMW of Canada and Audi of Canada will be your best bet.
I don't know how much you would be saving, but one of the advantages to buying the states might be wait times for delivery

It is very worth it getting one from the states, and I believe it is honored in Canada after sifting through e46fanatics.com....

Phone up BMWNA (bmw north america) and ask.

335i cp man. w/options I selected.

US ver 47,800= 56,100CAD.

CAD ver 60,595.

Now I'm not sure where 335i's are made is outside NA then duty will need to be added and that would make it less profitable and not worht it for 1000.00.

Duty 2868 US = 50688 US = 59,500.

The Canadian cars come with 4 year, no charge scheduled maintenance. This would likely not transfer over on an imported car, even if it is still offered. You can get 1k off of MSRP on the 335 in Canada.

3 series is still made in Germany. I think only the Z4, X3 and X5 are made in the US. I could be wrong though.

I would just buy it here. If you were buying a japanese car, I would say go south, but the new euros are price competitively.

Why? There is no point for the 1000 saved to go through any of the hassel..

That's right, Germany and South Africa. All the ones we get here in N.America come from Germany as far as I know, other than the SUV's.

The warranty from US might be a bit different from Canada. I would def call and ask.

but I dont think it would be worth the hassle and it might end up costing more.

When I imported my car from cali to canada.. i had to pay for 2 inspections, tax and duty on the car.. new or old.

As much as that maintenance package sounds like a lot... it is really a once a year thing.

They go by the service indicator in the car... I change my oil myself more often, cause it take a full year before my service light goes on..

driving television did a segment on this and they used the 335i as an example... here the link (Called Buying from the USA #1):

http://www.drivingtelevision.ca/index.php?epID=409

they basically found that it wasnt worth it to import it since the difference was only about 250 dollars.

Depending on the model selected it may be worth it, but you still pay the duty even for the stuff built at Spartanburg (X and Z). You also still pay the taxes, RIV fees of course, and you have to get the car home somehow - cross-border shipping can be pricey, especially bonded. There's a load of paperwork that has to be done properly as well, making it worth it to pay a broker (usually only about $200-250).

In the end it's probably not worth the hassles for a new car. As for warranty, the last time I spoke with BMW Canada about it, about 3.4 yr ago, they said no, however my car was CDN spec and coming from Germany. Once they found out it was CDN spec there were no problems. I'm not sure they'd honour the warranty for a US-spec car, but as advised above, call BMW CA and find out.

yup importing a new bmw is not worth it... importing a used one is another thing...

Also, if you buy when the Cdn dollar is high vs american dollars, you'll save a lot... right now it is 1 vs 1.18, not even worth it. imo

Ya I just cant bring myself to buy brand new. I hate the instant depreciation when buying new. I think I may just get an 05 SLK55 AMG or a nwer Z06 instead. :dunno:

I probably wouldn't import a new BMW from the US, but used cars, I definitely would, and know a few people that have done it with excellent results.
