I'm surprised at this list... with the stats on our website, it looks more like Hondas get jacked more than anything.

hyundia accident, who would steal that.

it all has to do with how common the car is. EVERYONE has or knows someone who has a Civic, Cavalier, Caravan, or Cherokee.

"Hi, 911? My car was stolen. It is a 1996 Green Dodge Caravan."

Go to a Safeway parking lot and there will be 55 matching that description. Stolen cars aren't worth much, but the things inside part out for way more than the car is worth.

And for the Hyundai's and Daewoo's. Would you report it if it was stolen from you? I'd be to embarrased to ever admit I owned that car!! Seriously though, they must be easy to steal and worth something somewhere.

No one ever steals Ferrarais or Porsches cause they are too heatscorel.

My $0.02

Daewoo being on the list is just wierd. Are they popular in eastern canada and have lots of dealers? I've only ever seen one Daewoo in Alberta and that was a number of years ago.
Daewoo North America went bankrupt last year and no longer has dealers here(except for that one in Calgary who is now either importing them or trying to sell the remaining inventory in hopes of reclaiming some money. Since Daewoo NA went bankrupt theres also a good chance the cars on that lot no longer belong to Daewoo and the dealer just assumed posession so thats money in the bank for him). There are barely any on the road and since their crap and are no longer being sold here, there is no desire for them. I dont think those stats are very credible

Why would someone steal any of those. They are all little cars that are like only 20k or less.

MerfBall

Because they are easy to steal.

These stats are for insurance purposes - likelihood of being stolen

So If theres 10 lanos in canada and 4 happens to get stolen.. baymn thats a high rate/risk right there.
Vs 2000 civics in one area and 200 get stolen...

Its really all how they count it.... it says on the website itself : theft frequency.

I do agree with the fact that Integras are up there. Apparantly even MY integra is still appealing to theives! I was told they steal older imports like mine for parts, because they're hard to come by.

they steal all of those cause the steering columns where the needed ignition wires to hotwire are are weak and crappily made...

With my car, I know that's true. I can pop my steering column off easily, but then again, it IS an old car. But who would really wanna steal it? :D

Personally I don't think that's at all accurate. One source said the Civic was number 1, another souce said Jeep Cherokees, and yet another that I saw listed Dodge Grand Caravans at the top. I don't really trust any of them.

Just re-read the souce quote and noticed it's only for 99-00 models. Why release a statistics report on just 99-00 models?

Daewoo being on the list is just wierd. Are they popular in eastern canada and have lots of dealers? I've only ever seen one Daewoo in Alberta and that was a number of years ago.

I just saw this article on MSN.CA yesterday... and decided to copy and paste part of it... (cars only) unfortunately, I could not find the original article right now or the URL....

but ... I found the most stolen cars in Canada for 2000-2001 models:

http://www.usedcarsontario.com/article10_most_stolen_vehicles.php

Top 10 Stolen Cars in 2000-2001:

1.Hyundai Tiburon 2DR
2.Acura Integra 2DR
3.Honda Civic Si 2DR
4.Hyundai Accent 2DR
5.Volkswagen Golf GTI 2DR
6.Honda Civic 2DR
7.Honda Prelude 2DR
8.Hyundai Elantra 4DR
9.Hyundai Accent 4DR
10.Mazda Miata Convertible

The Tiburon is still #1 hahaha
4 Hyundais on this list.... !!!!!!!!!

*** a thought .... since these figures come from Insurance claims, its possible that some of the stolen vechicles could be "fake" or insurance frauds... meaning that the owner gets their friends to steal his car and Claim insurance on it ***

or.. it could be that they all go to chop shops and parts are sold to the autobody repair shops....

a car is a car. some people still cars to have fun. not to mention if I Was ever a theive, I rather steal a 10k dollar car to make 500 dollars then to steal a 30k+ car and make much more..that has security and the whole works which makes it harder to steal.

in the end, I do not think people with the ascent have any security in them, in fact ppl think those cars are less likely to be broken into...
