View Full Version : Laser Speed Enforcement in Calgary...

This may be a difficult question for anyone on here to answer, but it's a great deal of interest to me, so any leads on an answer would be appreciated. (Not even sure if there is a better forum for this question to be asked, but here it goes...)

Does anyone know what kind of LIDAR guns the Calgary LEOs are using?

There's a number of possibilities, including the LTI Ultralyte LR 100/200, Kustom Pro Laser III, Laser Atlanta Type S, and the Stalker LZ-1.

If anyone has any friends in law enforcement, please do some digging for me. Thanks a bunch.

Not to be a prick or anything, but I didn't ask for a lecture on being a good little boy. Not to mention that I only asked what type of LIDAR gun is used, and made NO mention of exceeding posted speed limits.

If you're going to help me, great, a round of beers on me. If not, please keep the holier than thou "don't speed!" comments to yourself. I already have a mother, I don't need another.

I remember a cop going on the stand and saying he got me with an ultralyte.

LTI Ultralytes? Ah bugger. I would have been monumentally happier hearing they were running anything but Ultralytes.

If anyone else can contribute, or know a law enforcement officer they can ask, that would be great, just to confirm.

I know they have ultralytes and another kind but Im not sure what the second is

I am curious why you are curious, I dont give a damn if you want to speed or not, but do the different guns change how to avoid it or something?

i think the 20/20 or something like that is notorious for giving false readings.

As far as why I want to know which gun is in use, it's to do with laser punch-through. The LTI seems to get better punch-through distances than other guns (not good for me).

Are you wondering which will do a better job with your Veil?

You should get a jammer. Have a read here:

Hope that helps some.

I have a Blinder M20 Xtreme AND VEiL. ;) I'm considering upgrading to an extra two Blinder heads in the front grille.

That's why I need to know what guns we're being targeted with.

You invest so much to avoid a few tickets on a Wrangler?

Gee, I thought you have a Porsche or something.

I drive a LOT. I've put 13,000 KM on since October/06.

Time is money. Besides, when I switch out of my Wrangler, I'll move the equipment over to the new vehicle. And you know how our insurance works out here. If it saves my arse from two tickets, it's paid for itself.

yes, i put about 35000 in 12 months...
thats an average of 9000 more a year or... 750km more per month than you.

October 20th, 2006 to now... so 4 months and a little bit. That's some pretty crazy math getting six months out of that.

thats an average of 9000 more a year or... 750km more per month than you. I just hit 14,000 KM, so 14,000 KM / 4.5 months = roughly 3,110 KM per month. 3,110 KM/month = 37,332 KM/yr.

My lease allows me 20,400KM/yr. :banghead: But it's only a two year lease, so I'm not too worried [shrug].

So the consensus is that Calgary LEOs are using Ultralytes, yes?

didn't double check the math :dunno: haha sorry, but yea, apparently they use the LTI's and some other unknown kind... I also know that there are still some older cops using radar guns still, but there's only about 3 of em.
