have a good deal on a 92 civic hatchback from a friend of the family
problem is that i think it is probably an auto
anyone know how much work it is converting it to 5 speed ?
how much would the conversion cost ?
can you sell a auto tranny to relieve costs ?

I believe it's anywhere between $1000-2500, depending on difficulty and the cost of the tranny. Remember, a whole floor shifter needs to be put in, which means maybe cutting a hole in the floor of the vehicle and swapping in a new cener console. Best to wait for the same car being sold in a 5 speed. It isn't hard to find a good deal on a 92 civic.

yah i looked for a good deal on the same car and the lowest price i could find was around the 6000-6500 range and more than 150000 kms
the one i could buy is 3500 and it has less that 150 000 kms
should i just flip it maybe ????

that's a goody deal, but try buysell.com in BC, you'll find tons, if you wanted a std. swap though, it might end up costing you as much as you would pay for one with a std.
BTW, that's an awesome avatar

maybe you should just get a cheap one and do an engine swap that comes with a 5-speed.

Captain Dirty/Cap_D did and Si 5-speed swap into his auto civic hatch on 403honda.com, so you could ask him.

that swap is probly not too bad, its a cable tranny not hydrolic. I think it would be pretty tricky tho...
