Was out looking with g/f at cars and we came across a Tiburon Tuscani, (Red) with the 6 speed manual. It's priced at 30,959 Final price with a 7 year 0% finance rate.

Now i knew for the longest time that Hyundai's were a cheap car not known for their quality and was wondering if this still applies or is it just what people assume??? You'd think they'd get up to par a little it can't be that horrible.

I checked and couldn't find any other ones for sale... i also checked for safety recalls and came up with none.

So is this car worth purchasing?? Any other recommendations? It would have to be something in the same range of features. Also, no used cars it has to be new with a good finance rate!! She can't get a bank loan, so no used.

They're reliability problems aren't nearly as bad as they've been. As for the choice of car I'd say you might want to look at an RSX or even a mazda 3 if you can put up with four doors.

Dude for 30 grand u can get a brand new civic si. WAAAAAAAYY nicer! WAY faster, handeling is great, nice interior if you can get over the funky dash board. If i was spending 30 grand i would not be looking at a tiburon. And there so damn small inside. If i had 30 i would be getting a new civic si, a new vw GTI 2.0 T or something along those lines. Just my 2 cents!

I think Hyundai has taken some pretty big strides in quality over the last few years. I don't know anything about the tiburon as I've never driven one but I actually think they look pretty good. That styles been out for quite some time now and it hasn't gotten old to me yet.

You can't beat 0% when you look at the money saved on interest and the lower monthly payment but you need to balance it out with depreciation and what you would pay for another car with current finance rates etc. Good thing about that car and others in it's category is they've been out for long enough for you to look around find some resale values. Do some math and factor in all of those things and then make a choice.

I think if you aren't going to be modding it (gf's car right) then it's likely not a bad choice if it makes sense financially. One guy I know has a hyundai tucson for about 2 years or so now and he still loves the car he got for the money and has had zero complaints about it reliability-wise that I know of.

I think the 30 is tax in? The others aren't.

The VW's were awesome until we found out the finance rates. 6.9%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the Civic's didn't fare much better at 4.9%, I was looking to buy a Civic SI for myself, as the Truck is not a daily driver at 8mpg, but I walked once I found out the rates.

I just find tiburons very boring. No passion. Interiors a very plan and plasticy. But i mean if thats what you like then go for it. Just make sure you have driven lots of differnt ones.

Something like this is good to look at too.

A recent study run by independent automotive warranty specialist, Warranty Direct, looked at more than 450,000 vehicles, across 33 manufacturers, from the UK and the USA for reported mechanical failures. It found Mazda to be the most reliable car brand with almost 92% of its cars aged between 3 and 9 years to have suffered no mechanical failures of any type. The Japanese carmaker achieved a failure rate of just 8.04% to come out on top of a field where only two non-Asian based manufacturers made it into the top ten.

Table to illustrate the reliability ratings of 450,000 vehicles by manufacturer:

Manufacturer / Incidence Rate %

1 Mazda 8.04%
2 Honda 8.90%
3 Toyota 15.78%
4 Mitsubishi 17.04%
5 Kia 17.39%
6 Subaru 18.46%
7 Nissan 18.86%
8 Lexus 20.05%
9 Mini 21.90%
10 Citroen 25.98%
11 Daewoo 26.30%
12 Hyundai 26.36%
13 Peugeot 26.59%
14 Ford 26.76%
15 Suzuki 27.20%
16 Porsche 27.48%
17 Fiat 28.49%
18 BMW 28.64%
19 Vauxhall 28.77%
20 Mercedes 29.90%
21 Rover 30.12%
22 Volvo 31.28%
23 Volkswagen 31.44%
24 Jaguar 32.05%
25 Skoda 32.12%
26 Chrysler 34.90%
27 Audi 36.74%
28 Seat 36.87%
29 Renault 36.87%
30 Alfa Romeo 39.13%
31 Saab 41.59%
32 Land Rover 44.21%
33 Jeep 46.36%

Yeah I had the SI down to 29, tax in. But payments were gonna be around the $560 mark, not that it's too much, I just don't need another big vehicle payment.

And for her she's looking at the $400 range per month, that's why we were looking at this car. In a sense your getting a $30,000 car with the payments of a $20,000 car.

Oh does anyone know if Hyundai will deal on pricing? I couldn't find any other Tuscani's for sale in Alberta... so i'm wondering if i'm screwed if i try to barter.

Ouch.

I'm part of that 34.90% too, my truck is grinding bad just after I start it up.

I would say go for it bro! At 0% financing...that is a pretty sweet deal. I was looking at the GTI also. Fully loaded....LEASE payments were over $700/mth.

And I looked at the Si as well and the rates on the website were 7.9%!!!! WAY TOO MUCH!

There is also lots of aftermarket support for the 'tib.

Man for $700 a month you could import an SRT-10 Regular Cab. :)

Hyundai has come a long way, but unfortunately most people still think their crap and they're not. They are built much better than American cars these days, and pretty close to some Japanese product. Unfortunately your resale value will not be good on any Hyundai, just like an American car)

If you can swing the payments I'd look at Mazda3/Civic, if not the Hyundai won't be a bad choice.

Would you consider a used car? You can get 2004 Acura TL's for high 20's and 2003/2004 Maximas for 18-23k. 2003 G35's are now mid-high 20's as well and all of those cars are a lot more car than a civic/tiburon, and you don't have to pay GST. You can finance it through the bank too if its cheaper.

Just something to think about, good luck with your decision!

Yeah the used just wouldn't work, I know for myself it's not a problem to get a loan from a bank, but for herself she has some previous credit problems so they basically said no, unless she wants a 10% or higher interest rate. That's why used just doesn't work out.

Thanks for the info on the Hyundai reliability, I was sure they have come up and that it was just people stuck on previous opinions from years past. Plus they have a great warranty at 5yrs/100,000km!

hyundai is growing pretty fast, quality is getting better
but i wouldn't get the tiburon, in my books its just like an GSR......consider the mid class sedans better bang for buck

With all the talk about the new civic I have to put in my 2 cents. It's the biggest piece of shit to drive, I've never been so bored with an automobile. It has terrible blindspots, a HUGE dash, tiny interior and the car's dimension are as big as my Benz.

:thumbsdow For the new civic.

Good to know, I really like the Exterior of the new Civic though, freakin nice.

I'd rather see her in a 4 door mid class too, but you know chicks it's all about the 2 mid compact sport cars.

My GF was looking for a new car this winter and we drove a bunch, including the tiburon. She loved the way it looks on the outside but once we drove it we weren't impressed.

The civic was ok too, drove well for a compact etc.

We then drove a new VW Rabbit. For how much it goes for the car is a great buy feature wise. Interior is top of the class etc. The only thing I don't like is the fuel efficiency (10.5l/100kms in the city). But it's a 5 cylinder so I guess that's fine.

You also have to look at resale value, when buying. You might come out no further ahead if you buy a 30K tiburon with 0 % fin. or a 30K GTi with 6.9% financing. Because, if you sell both car 5 years later you might get that difference in financing cost back due to Higher resale value on the Gti...

There's a reason the Rabbit keeps getting #1 compact car

Definitely worth a look.
