Guys... I have made my decision... thanks for everyone's support these past few weeks... I am going to purchase a White 2002 Jetta 1.8T this week NOT a Subaru WRX...!

Wish me luck... I think I made the right choice! =)

just a quick question... how big of a difference btwn the 5 speed manual and the 5 spd tiptronic? I drove the tiptronic one for the stampede week and that was quite fun.. :burnout:

Well I think the Jetta suits you better! Time for chip, intake, and exhaust! Put the leather to good use! haha j/k

Well... you would be missing a third pedal (LOL) ... and well... the manual in ANY car makes you feel as if you are actually commanding and controlling the car vs. just plain ole` driving it. Also, one of the more common problems with the auto trannys in the newer dubs is something called "auto tranny whine". Usually around 34-42 mph, you hear a high-pitched whine. Some people have had their transmission replaced, only to have the whine come back. 5-speed manual ALL THE WAY!!! LOL

actually i was referring more towards performance wise such as 0-60 etc with the tiptronic and 5 spd. :)

tip is like 3 or 4 tenths slower

Nice :D VeeDubs rule  Before I bought the Accord I was looking for either a Maxima, Accord or a Jetta. Not too many of either of these cars for sale, especially in the trim I wanted.
Good Luck!

No dude... every four years they do that... and the Wolfsburg came out in 2001... that means in 2005 a new Wolfsburg will appear! :D :D

Just curious but why didn't you go for another VR6?

Fluidic

Because... at one time... I understood that there was no replacement for displacement... then I came back to reality!!

BOOST IS WHERE IT'S AT!! Cheaper to modify... and for 600 bucks... to get an extra 25HP... well.. it can't be beat!! And of course... we live in a place with high altitude... a turbo compensates for all that!

They are the same. Makes no difference.

with turbo you can turn up the boost to compensate.

I just had a huge post to respond but now I've confused myself lol. I'll check some stuff and get back to you.

Turbo cars are not affected by elevation near as much as N/A Cars

Ok, here it is, I was wrong the first time. Your explination confused me some since they talk about pressure ratios and dropping boost pressures, yadda yadda yadda. Here is the 5.9 R/T version (a.k.a. stupid redneck version). Turbos are controlled by a wastegate that is set to a certian PSI, lets say 10psi, at EVERY altitude. So at sea level: 14.7psi normal air pressure@ sea level+ 10psi of boost = 24.7psi of actual pressure. And for a NA car of course the normal air pressure would apply (14.7psi). Then we go to 6000ft where the air pressure is 11.78 but the wastegate still needs to see 24.7psi of boost before it will open. So: 11.78psi normal air pressure@ 6000ft + 12.92psi of boost = 24.7psi of actual pressure. The turbo now has to spin faster to make up that almost 3psi of lost pressure. .***If the turbo is properly matched to the car it's efficiency will be lower at higher turbine RPMs*** More RPMs = more heat = less dense intake charge = loss of power. So there is some power loss but most of it can be recovered. Whether it's 50% or not is rather hard to pin down because of all the variables between turbo cars.
