Pulled the out of storage last night, so glad to be able to drive it again.

Put the new hood on it today, looks much better, very happy with it.

Tackled the speedometer dropping to zero issue after.

Went through the instruction manual for it, the led light on it wasn't even lighting up so it said to be a ground or power issue. Verified all the power and speedo wires were still intact and connected. Unhooked the ground from beneath the hood release, sanded the area down and the ground connector, screwed it in firmly. LED light still didn't turn on. At this point I said fuck it, it came with the car when I bought it and I don't have modified gear ratios so I figured that there was a strong chance it just crapped out, as it went from happening once, to once in a while, then to every single drive. With the unit being dead the ecu wouldn't get the speedo reading I would assume so it would throw the cel.

I really didn't care about it being installed as there's no reasoning for it unless s2k's have issues with the speedo being off to which I'm not aware of?? lol. So I spent some time restoring all the original wiring setup, yanked the yellowjacket out, gone on 2 decently long drives and the speedo hasn't cut out once. Compared to last night where it cut out within a minute of me driving it.

Happy to have that issue resolved, onto getting the new rims and exhaust put on.

Very blah for what direction to go with my car. Not sure if I want to stay NA or go forced induction. One reason I bought the car was that it is a fun reliable car and wouldn't have to deal with issues like I did back in the day with old turbo civics. Lack of search feature on this thread is poopy, anyone have experience with what's better as far as forced induction for these cars at this elevation? I see lots of supercharged s2k's on kijiji lately, but I know you can make bigger numbers going the turbo route.

there's still a reasonable level of reliability in a properly installed and maintained bolt-on supercharger kit but as you up the boost, you up the wear and reliability/longevity of your engine goes down. Really depends on your power goals. IMO the linear delivery and the extra kick from a low psi supercharger is great. Doesnt change fuel economy and driveability day to day but when you lay into it and get the revs up the added power is nice. Guess it also depends if you drive your car like you stole it everyday as well lol

- OEM exhaust, might consider aftermarket if its quiet.
- Glass softop. If anyone wants to go hardtop and sell the whole softop + frame I would be interested. I would also be interested in the frame alone as I dont want to mess around modifying my 00-01 frame to fit the glass.

Tis a ways away til the car comes out of storage but just planning for the near future, looking for a shop/person to install a s/c kit along with clutch and exhaust - any recommendations would be appreciated as I know several shops that dealt with imports have gone the way of the ghost in Calgary over the past few years. I live in Red Deer, to which I know of Lightspeed Innovations but have no personal experience with them so any input on them would be nice, however if you guys know of anyone in Calgary or Edmonton then recommendations or input would be helpful. Outside of the install then I will be figuring out who to use to tune the car.

Which tires seem to work best on the s2k?

Uses:
-Mainly daily driving. No plans to go to the track with it... yet :burnout:
-I don't plan to drive my s2k when it rains... but in the odd chance that I get caught in a heavy downpour I don't want to be hydroplaning all over the highway or crawling at an unreasonable pace.
-Tires that won't lose traction at cold temperatures (-5 degrees C to 5 degrees C).

People on s2ki seem to recommend the Dunlop Starspecs or the successor Dunlop Direzza ZII... but I can't see that working well in the rain or cold days.

I've also heard Continental ExtremeContact DW or Continental ExtremeContact DWS work well as all season on the S.

I have Dunlop Direzza for summer. So little grip when wet. Did a 360 on Crowchild once :nut:

Murray Peterson

Dunlop Direzza ZII are great in the rain and have incredible grip -- they are my choice for this summer's stock street racing tire. If the water on the track is not standing in deep pools, I'll even take these over the DW's. They handle cool weather just fine, but not below freezing.

The Continental DW is the best daily driver street tire for the summer, and can handle inches of water without hydroplaning. These are my street tires I run when when not racing. Oh, and the DW will give you a noticeable improvement in your gas mileage.

That being said, neither one of these tires is an all season tire. Get on a bit of ice and you might as well give up and drive into the ditch. The DW will handle a bit of slush, but the ZII won't even handle that.

So, given your criteria, I would suggest the DW.

Yeah, it's pretty easy. Once you pop off the the door sill panel, flip it upside down and you'll see that there are two round rivets that attach to the underside of the plate. You can just push them through if I recall correctly. I did this ages ago so I might be a bit off but that's what I remember.
