I'm experiencing the same issues now. Getting continuously logged off while using MSN. Tried upgrading to the new one, Windows Live Messenger, and the problems have persisted (not to mention that the new version sucks).

I was having the EXACT same problem. What I found was the solution was uninstalling my Zone alarm pro internet security suite and replacing it with a free AGV virus scanner. So if you have Zone Alarm Pro delete it thats what worked for me.
