Thought this was pretty neat - especially when they witnessed the new island being formed.

very cool, I'd wait around, then get my trusty flag out to claim the island as my own... I'll call it.... the Island of EnRich... muhaha

 Those fools. Islands form from volcanic activity. If I saw that kinda shit goin down, I'd be getting my step on outta there.

Surrounding water had to have been getting pretty hot

They seem to be a fair distance away.. not like they could predict what they were about to run into or what was going to occur.

Still, who wouldn't want to stick around to watch the show? That'd be a pretty cool site

That's a pretty lucky chance of seeing an island form. Judging by the pictures, this probably happened over 3-4 days. I bet those guys didn't even know wtf was going on when they first saw the "sand". Still, pretty cool.

Let's ask the question: If you were there, and waited long enough for the rock to cool, what would you do (go to the island, avoid it..etc)?

That's pretty damn close. Close enough for volcanic activity to own them anyway.

It's a cool sight and all, but I wouldn't risk my life for it. :nut:

Holy that's crazy!!

We're doing volcanic/oceanic stratigraphy in class now. Funny seeing this today

Once I changed my pants from shitting in them, I'd turn that boat around and GTFO.
Stick around and watch the show?!?! Wait until aqueous sedimentary deposits clog your motor, and you're stuck drifting in towards the fireworks by the current from the subduction zone. That looks like a really high energy area. Definitely dangerous, but really interesting stuff to see first hand.

Looks pretty awesome but yah id get the hell out of there when the water started steaming like it did.

I'm just guessing here but I don't think that he's running with a motor. One of the pictures shows a sail, last time I checked its not going to get clogged up but very valid points. I'd never be caught close to that.

A lot of yachts still have a motor on it for windless days.
