View Full Version : What's a fair under-the-table hourly rate for a carpenter on a small job?

Hey guys... I'm looking to install a 74" long section of cupboards and I was thinking of hiring a carpenter (maybe from Beyond?) for a cash job.

What's a fair hourly rate? I don't need someone with 101 years of experience, but they need to know what they're doing. I would be supplying materials.

$20 per foot
But you might have a hard time finding someone to make a trip for just one small cupboard
You might want to try just a cash offer for someone to come hang it

May be easier to offer someone a flat amount rather than an hourly rate

From when I was getting finish carpenter rates it ranged anywhere from $15-$25 per linear foot. The guy that finally came out only did it because he was working on my in-laws house and did my job on the weekend.

In the states, you can go to Home Depot and pick up an illegal mexican dude to do it cheap. Too bad we don't have that here haha.

Anyone on Beyond interested in taking the job on for $175? That's a little over $28/foot... I'm guessing this job will take no longer than 5 hours, and even at 5 hours you're getting $35/hour.

Is this a fair offer? I have no real idea... let me know if my price is too low or too high...

The location is 8th Street & 3rd Ave SW, looking to get it done Saturday or Sunday this weekend.
