Does anyone know the laws about parking on a street by a driveway? There is no parking at my daughter's school, she has a small compact car. She parked inbetween two driveways. There was not much room but because her car is small it actually fit without blocking either side of the driveway, at the most she might have hung over one of the driveways about 3 inches. When she came out there was a note asking her not to park there, that she was not parked in a legal parking place. She was okay about not parking there next time, then she noticed that someone had stolen her lic. plates. Can anyone give me any advise on either of the subjects. We have called the police but you know how that goes.

Well if you are actually in calgary, I can tell you that there is no law preventing you from parking in between two driveways. I am no to sure about cali.

In calgary I believe you have to park at least 1.5 meters from a driveway.

That is right sir, 1.5 m away from the driveway and they will measure it to a sentimeter.

1.5 meters, because someone pulling into their driveway has to turn into the driveway and cut the corner a little bit. If a car was parked to the edge of the driveway, the car pulling in would have to drive straight in and not be able to turn in. Hard to do on most streets.

^^And perpendicular parking in a parking lot is any different?!? If people can't park with a car that's less than 1.5m to their driveway, then maybe they shouldn't even be taking their cars out of the driveway in the first place! Wait a minute, this is Calgary driver's we're talking about; my statement applies to 80%+ of the drivers!

Generally the 1.5M rule will only be enforced should a complaint be filed. Otherwise, people tend not to 'give a shit'.

I love it where I wake up in the morning... and someone has parked 1/2 way into the driveway... on my side... oh the fun.

I agree. It is no different than a parking lot... and who's driveway is as narrow as a parking stall anyways?

I am pretty sure what Aleks ment is that some people mistake websites that end in .ca for California, as apposed to Canada.

Yeah, I know about the 1.5m rule too cos I just recently got a ticket for that :(

Also in Calgary (and I bet for anywhere else in North America?), I believe that you're not allowed to park your car regularly in front of someone's property. I believe the owner of the house can call city to tag the car. Residential street is not allowed for constant parking. Can someone confirm this for me?

Yeah my gf parked her own car outside her own house 1.3 m from her drive way and she got a ticket!

Actually I believe residential parking is free-for-all because you don't own the streets, and not parking in front of your neighbors house is just being considerate.
