Beyond.ca 2007 NHL Playoff Pool Contest

The NHL playoffs start next month, so we're starting a NHL playoff pool contest. We will be using the Sportingnews hockey pool so if you haven't signed up there yet, you'll want to register and get your team setup asap. The NHL playoffs start on April 11, 2007 so your team must be finalized before then.

The draft will be quite simple, you have $30M which you will use to buy players for your team. You will buy a total of 7 players; 1 Goalie, 2 Defensemen, 2 Wingers, 1 Center, and 1 Extra Attacker. The lineup you have on April 11th will be used to determine your final rankings amongst the beyond.ca league.

In order to keep this hockey pool as simple as possible for casual hockey fans, there will be no trades allowed. The interface will provide an option to make trades, as well as purchasing additional trades but anyone that trades players will be disqualified from the contest.

Also, to help build a community and help contribute to the active discussion of the playoff pool while it is running, your team name must be your beyond.ca user name.

I have not finalized the prize yet for this contest, but our prize budget is somewhere around $750 - $1000 and it will be dependent on participation level. Tell your friends about this contest, post about it on other forums or blogs to get more people to enter. New members that sign-up just for this contest are eligible to win!

If you have suggestions, please do provide them! If any sponsors want to add more prizes in addition to our budget, please send me a PM!

Scoring
The winner at the end of the NHL playoff season will be the manager of the team with the most points.

Yes, you can build you team now and change it all you want until April 11th at which time your roster will be open for everyone else in the league to see. This roster will be your final roster which you will not be allowed to change in order to remain in the contest.

Hey Kenny, you might want to specific a tiebreaker cause chances are 2 people (atleast) will have the same team.... i can only imagine how many all Flames teams there will be haha.

Good point!

I propose using salary to break the tie, so lowest salary will be considered winner. If there are identical teams and they are the points leader after the tie breaking procedure, the winner will be declared by random draw.

Any thoughts on this? or would everyone like a different tie breaking system?

For tie breakers just give the win to the person who used the most of the 30 million.
For identical teams... just go by a name out of the hat draw :D

Identical teams is the problem... cause I'm sure there will be identical teams in this league since there's no trades and all.

And I dont know how to solve that, drawings a name out of a hat is kinda lame haha. Maybe if there is a tie going into the finals (you'll know by then) have a contest to pick how long the series is going to go or who will win the con smythe or lead playoffs in scoring.

Yes, you have to have a complete roster (including the extra attacker) or you team doesn't score any points.

I have recieved a bunch of PMs from people asking if buying/selling players before the April 11th deadline is considered trading, and the answer is NO.

It will show up in your trades list but until the Playoffs start, you are free to do whatever you want with your team.

Another reminder for everyone to get your teams ready soon, The playoffs start on the 11th so your teams must be finalized by then to start recieving points. If you have an incomplete team on April 11th, you will not get ANY points at all.

At last count, there was over 180 entries so it should be pretty competitive. Good luck to everybody!

A good way to break a tie is have the team that has the lowest scoring player of all of the teams.

So if someone gets in first place even if they have one crappy player they deserve to win.
