Drive out by brooks and hunt down some hutterites using a "hutterite finder" (can be bought any canadian tire store for $19.95). Then ask to buy some chickens.

^Just make sure you get the V2.0 of the finder, V1.0 sometimes will send you to the Menonites. :D

I know Co-op used to buy their chickens from the hutterite's... I'm not sure if they still do or not though...

Thanks, I would appreciate it. When we use to place order we could order 30 at a time and give the approx weights and they were a fantastic deal. Not just a great deal but the size and taste of the chicken you can't compare with the grocery store. If you ever have the opportunity take it, you will not want to eat store bought again.

Oh and I completely agree... My mom used to by chickens in bulk (so to speak) from the hutterite's but hasn't in a long time, so she tried one from Co-op and it definately wasn't as tasty, but I guess it's worth trying until you find another 'supplier'.

Yeah we get it from a guy name Mike (Rosebud Colony) every few months for the restaurant. We usually get 200 each time. Chicken weight on average between 6-7llbs!

PM me if you want his contacts or the next time he comes in, let me know how many you want me to set aside.

I'm sure if you hung around Chinatown, you'll eventually run into a Hutterite. You might even be able to buy some off them right on the spot. The main thing I don't care for with their chickens is that they sometimes don't clean them very well. The odd time you'll come across some leftover innards or unplucked feathers.

I just did some research and the 3.0 hutterite finder IS actually out now.. and it has a chicken finding mod as well for $9.95. So basically suck it up.. spend the the $30 and fill your tank up.. go out to brooks and get some chickens!

Hutterites believe in noncomformity, that's just their way of saying "We don't give a fuck." They're gangsta like that.

Yes. Most of them have at least one chicken on them at any given time. I know it sounds silly but they use hutterite magic to hide them.

Which farmers market are you refering to , the Crossroads or The Barracks ?
The Market at the Barracks , last time I was there , sell the organic , free range birds . Small , but tasty .

As a kid growing up here and having parents who've dealt with the Hudderites , I offer this advice . Get to know them . For the most part they are good people but they are business people first and can be really shady and sly . My advice , like mentioned in some other posts , is to call around and find the nearest farm and actually set up a meeting and go check them out . Not everything they produce is organic or hormone free , reguardless of what they tell you .

As a aside , they are one of the largest , if not the largest landowners in Alberta , and they have LOADS of money . Most have hearts of gold and are the hardest workers you'll find .

hutterite chickens...juicy, big, did I mention juicy and they taste like chicken.

Trust me, if you buy one, you will understand. They are just better than the ones you buy from lilydale.

Just like the strawberries from my garden....you can't compare them to the ones in the store... mine are actually have flavour.

NEVER buy hutterite chickens... they steal the inspection tags that are used, and tag all their chickens regardless!

I get my chickens (and pieces) from a farmer in Bowden.

www.bowdenfarmfreshchicken.com

My wife and I love his chicken and all of it comes packaged in heavy vacuum wrap and ready for the freezer. It is also packaged in 1 lb increments so you dont have to thaw too much at a time.

He also delivers to Calgary for free with a minimum purchase.
