so any of you guys listen to Brother Ali? he's a rapper on the indie hip hop label Rhymesayers, in Minneapolis. i've grown up on this shit, but like most independent labels, the artists don't typically infiltrate the mainstream market.

Brother Ali is some dope shit though. His first 'real' album was called Shadows on the Sun, and it is in my top 5 favorite hip hop albums of all time. It's awesome - hardcore beats with sensible lyrics that non-thugs can relate to. I think the rhymes are particularily dope because Brother Ali is an albino african-american, and therefore had a really tough childhood because he didn't fit into any group and was ridiculed by everyone. Many of his rhymes are about how to confront and conquer such adversity, something that everyone can relate to.

I've heard an advance copy of the new album, and it's dope as well. It will be realeased on April 10th. I'm assuming a tour (with shows in Calgary and Edmonton) will follow. You can download and mp3 of Truth Is

You can hear the tracks Truth Is (http://www.rhymesayers.com/assets/audio/truthis_clean.ram) and Freedom Ain't Free (http://www.rhymesayers.com/assets/audio/freedomaintfree_clean.ram). You can download an mp3 of Truth Is here (http://www.rhymesayers.com/assets/audio/truthis_clean.mp3). These tracks are from the label, so don't feel like an ass for downloading

A buddy of mine back in high school had Slug's Se7en album burned (awful quality) and a Living Legends mix and gave it to me. I still have both and i'm surprised they still work, as both scratched beyond shit. But yeah, both discs got me through high school......... Didn't listen to RSE too much after that until Atmosphere (w/ Dibbs on the tables) and the RSE crew (Brother Ali made his Calgary debut) in 2003 and after that it was on.... haven't seen them as many times as you, but if anyone is able to catch Atmosphere (or Brother Ali) DO IT!

Have you ever seen them back home?

I was a big fan of shadowz of the sun, I'm sure his new album will be just as sick.
