Ok there's a guy that I know that wants to swap a 1.8 Turbo (97 and up) into an older Golf (83-87). He would like to know what involve. (Axle, engine months, ......)

Thanks.

Well hes going to need everything. ECU, wiring harnes, axles, motor mounts. Tranny, hydrolic clutch conversion. Pretty much everything, as well as about 10000 bucks.

10 Grand? Holy shit! I personally think the 1.8T is a badass motor. Thats a shame its so impracticle to swap it in. I have a buddy with a 2001 Audi TT. It comes pretty de-tuned from the factory. A simple Chip change/boost increase on that motor will bring torque up to 245 lb/ft. That is ridiculous for 1.8 liters. Long live German automakers.

Give RPI a call down in Vancouver. They will have the answers you need.

Good luck

Its not impractical at all, fits like a charm, but buying a 20V Audi motor isn't exactly cheap. And then paying some one to do the wrench time.

VR6 Swap into my car retail out the door is gonna be 6000. I can get about 2500 for my motor right now, so its still 3.5k.

If you find a 1.8T motor for cheap then you can save alot of money, but if you go into a shop and say "this is what I want, do it" its gonna be 10 large.

I've seen it done for as little as 7, but that was getting the motor for "A steal"

actually, a simple chip on the 225hp Audi TT 1.8t yields 263hp and 267lb-ft of torque.

1.8t is an engine that responds well to mods, being already setup for boost.

What are the differences in the 1.8T in the Audi and the one in the Golf? My buddy has the 180 hp version TT. I could be wrong, but isn't the difference between the 180 and 225 models just a different turbo?

Saw this:

Looks like it needs a valve cover, and a few other things, but its a hell of a lot lower than 6k.

a little bit off-topic, but i was thinking of buying an Audi A4 (B5 chassis) with a 1.8T. Unfortunately, that thing is slow as dirt stock, so i wanted to get an APR chip for it.

add the chip to a gutted exhaust system, and i know that the HP/TQ gains are fairly significant, but what sort of performance will the chip actually give?

for the price, it's starting to look cheaper to buy a faster stock WRX...

Another way to go, and a was more cost effective way. Keep the 1.8 8v thats in the car. Get certain mods to drop the compression really low. Get a good turbo, and exhaust manifold. Spend the money on a fuel management system and ignition system. Set your boost up real high and let the good times roll.

It would be alot more involved, but alot less money.

Check it out. WRX will still be faster if you only add a chip to a 1.8T A4.
